Topic: The Best live Albums? - A Trip Down Memory Lane

Started thnkin' (first mistake) who've put together some great live performances onto discs form the classic rock era.  The first band that came to mind was Deep Purple's Made In Japan, then I thought of Clapton's Just One Night and can't forget the expanded Live At Leeds by The Who.  Those efforts are just scratchin' the surface.  Whose got some others to investigate?

I'm with Pete & Lou Reed. That's the first that popped into my head. How about "Live Dates" by Wishbone Ash and "Irish Tour" by Rory Gallagher. One more, "Alive In An Ultra World" by Steve Vai. I've got more if you want 'em.

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Re: The Best live Albums? - A Trip Down Memory Lane

Not wanting to take anything away from a great topic, Scott, but we've thrashed this one out before here.

Not that we can't change our minds and make fresh lists, of course.  big_smile

3 come to mind from the 70's, I tend to measure the success of all other live recordings by these. Still, Joe at RAH is one of the 5 best of all time, and LFNIP ain't shabby by any means.

Seconds Out - Genesis
Waiting For Columbus - Little Feat
Frampton Comes Alive

Re: The Best live Albums? - A Trip Down Memory Lane

Neil Young- Live Rust
Luther Allison- Live In Chicago

Re: The Best live Albums? - A Trip Down Memory Lane

Still find LFNIP one of the best sounding live albu.ms I've got.

That said, I see Rory has been mentioned but my favourite of his is actually

Taste - Live at the Isle of Wight. It's early Rory and absolutely pure. Some of favourite solo's of his on this album. 6 songs of gold.

Going off menu a bit I love

Radney Foster - Live at the Continental Club Austin. Feels like you are actually there!

Nils Lofgren Band - LIVE. One of the finest guitarists ever to walk the planet. This features the amazing Tim Beary on drums, one of the best players I have ever seen.

Bonnie Raitt - Road Tested. Sounded like a great show

Wishbone Ash - Live in Chicago. At the time with Ted Turner back in the band this sounded great although I gotta say Ash (The REAL Ash, Andy's version) present day, actually sound even better.

Thanks Phil for allowing this this once.  Okay... how about The Doors Live At Pittsburgh 1970 or Jimi Hendrix Live At Berkeley?  The Doors are pretty bluesy on that disc and Jimi sounds energized for the Leftcoast gig.  Any comments?

Re: The Best live Albums? - A Trip Down Memory Lane

Sorry for my choice of words. My intention was to remind everyone of their previous selections, not to moderate. Sometimes the words in your head look different in print.  hmm

Anyway, I don't think I know the Doors album you mention, but personally I think I prefer In The West to Live at Berkeley.
