Re: Stephen Stills

Stephen is in my top ten all time favorites. The first artist I asked for an autograph. The second was Joe. The years haven't been kind to him, but I'll go see him anytime.

There is a story about Stephen seeing Joe in a LA Guitar Center when he was there for a Fender event. Stephen asked if that was some kind of trick guitar he was playing. Invited him to jam at a rehearsal hall they had. I think it was pre Bloodline days.

I'll be checking to see if he is coming this way.

Re: Stephen Stills

I got a quick little story for you. It had to be a dozen or so years ago. I'm listening to the rock station at work, they mention Stephen Stills and friends are playing tonight in a club in Roseville where I live. I'm thinking what club, this town dont have no clubs he would play at. Come to find out it was about a mile from my house, I drove there after work, sure enough he is on the marqee. I come back later that night, get a ticket. Now there could'nt have been 50 people in that place. He comes out, it is him,a drummer, bass and a keyboard player who sung like a brother! Just blew the doors off this little joint, but he only played 45 minutes. He would start into a song and stop, just tore in to the mixer, I mean dropping f-bombs left and right. I'm thinking damn it dont sound that bad just play! Finally he finishes this one song, drops a f-bomb on us and walks out. People were booing big time, we are all looking at each other like he is just kidding right! He wasnt. I havn't seen him since.

Re: Stephen Stills

The keyboard player was probably Michael Finnigan. That dude can sing. Stills came to OKC and did a bombing memorial benefit at the request of a mutual friend that I grew up with. It wasn't promoted well and about 1,500 showed up. He put on one hell of a show. Grahm Nash came too. He had written a song about the bombing and did it for the first time there. He did tear the monitor guy a knew one. Couldn't get it loud enough. Of course he is damn near deaf.

I got to drive Stephens band to and from the airport and hotels. Finnigan was the keyboard player at the time. Funny guy. Gerald shuba ba da ma ma ma Johnson was the bass player. They told some stories about Stephen.
He's had his demons.I still admire Stephen for coming and doing the show out of his pocket. He eulogized our mutual friend a few years ago when he died.

Stills is a legend as far as I'm concerened. I would of been happy to see him in a club no matter how short he played. When he started throwing **## I would of gotten out of the way.

Jim,  I wished I'd have been in the car with you to hear the stories.  I haven't seen him by himself, but I've seen Crosby,Stills, Nash, & Young twice and it was like being lifted up into the heavens somewhere......I'll be appreciative of any amount of time he plays.  Always loved the Graham Nash album Simple Man, too.  I love the complete throwbacks in time when I hear these guys.....I put on my Deja Vu t-shirt and just drift on out.......what a special time....Patty

Re: Stephen Stills

Hi Patty- I'm wondering if you meant the album "Songs for Beginners" with the song Simple Man?  It's my absolute favorite Graham Nash album! And funny enough, I had turned my youngest brother onto it years ago and he was just telling me at the Roger Waters concert Friday night his 12 year old son just got turned onto it!  Looks like we got Graham Nash on the radar...he's coming around with David Crosby at the same venue Joe will be playing in November. I think there's a little bit of nostalgia going around too, did I ever feel it Friday night, especially with the young kids smoking pot in the seats in front of me!  We were all joking about having no responsibilities and our party days...of course when my kids weren't listening. big_smile Did we have the best music back in the day or what?
