Just as I turned the pc off late last night, the O's were 2-0 up in Boston and the Nats were 8-0!! up.
Imagine my surprise this morning.
Interesting twist to the Giants/Mets broadcast tonight. Bob Costas & Al Michaels are broadcasting the game nationally on the MLB Network, which is blacked out in the Bay Area, however Comcast is feeding them for the 6th & 7th innings giving Duane Kuiper & Mike Krukow, our local guys a 2 inning break. They've relived a few Costas & Michaels broadcast highlights including Al's moment behind the mike as the earthquake hit during the '89 Series between the A's & Giants. Then they replayed Costas' call of the Marlins game winning hit against the Indians in the '97 series, I almost puked up my pizza n beer on that one! Probably my darkest hour in my entire lifelong love of baseball. OMG, Al just brought up a story about sitting in a restaraunt with former no-hitter Giants pitchers Ed Halicki & John "The Count" Montefusco.......in UTICA, NY!!!! Oh well end of 7, back to Kruk n Kuip, hands down, one of the best teams @ what they do. They both played the game and never take themselves seriously, which is what makes them a joy to listen to. BTW, Costas & Michaels couldn't resist replaying Duane Kuipers only ML career home run back in his days in Cleveland, nice jab fellas!!!
VIVA Gigantes!!!

edit name so it didn't look like scat. When he was here Rick, was definitely one of the best and certainly most exciting years in San Diego Padres Baseball Club history. A stellar '84 season, only to get outfoxed in the series.
Going back to my first major league baseball game(s) in Boston 1967, he made an instant impact wherever he went...my favorite modern day manager, and always an Oakland A in my scorebook! Baseball needs managers like him with these modern day prima donnas, tell it like it is and no pussyfooting! Sit down!!!Rock ON & Keep the Faith,
Rocket
Bah! A World Series appearance courtesy of Leon Durham.

LOL! Yup! And I really thought it was the end at 13-0 in game 1........Biggest cheat for both teams was the best of 5 format...should've been best of 7. 1 or 2 more games either NL team might've tamed the Tigers, maybe not though...would've been more fair though, IMO. The college umps and a too short (most interesting post season matchup, IMO) series...saw most of the Cubs appearances that year-really liked their lineup and very impressed by them also...
But game 4 had sealed Cubbies fate, Bill...most exciting Padres game, and I had caught 90% of all Padre games on radio (or in person) that year..I was doing some special fundraising for Afghanistan (yes, in 1984!) that weekend and caught it on TV...Ultimately Garvey, not Durham, was the dream buster. Maybe next year. Or not. Again.

ps- memory flapped, first MLB game was in New York (Mets) 1966...vs. St. Louis Cardinals
( Lou Brock started his tearing up base-stealing career in earnest that year)

I am an optimist in most things...the Cubs being the one glaring exception. Never believed in curses...but between 1984 and The Year of the Bartman, I have succumbed. I don't expect to see a Cubs World Series championship in my lifetime.
I'd be happy to see a .500 season within the next 10 years.
Those Cubbies do have some kind of stink on them Bill. It takes a special kind of fan to persevere with so many what ifs in succession. Makes one believe in jinxes! I was at that game when Garvey broke your hearts. He is a legend in Padres lore.

Hahaha...I never cared for Mr. Garvey and the way he was portrayed as the all american boy. I've liked him even less since 1984, lol.

Damnation! And I thought it was just Cubs fans that hated him!
Aw, just that one swing of the bat endeared him here. His personal life doesn't count inside the lines. On another note, our Padres continue to stink up the place. They're making a serious run at an all time record that they may own forever. Most shutouts in a season.
Rick
I LOVE the Phillies!!!!!!!!!

Personal life dont matter between the lnes? Tell that to Pete Rose.
the federal prosecutors totaly blew the Clemens deal, or was it a "deal"? They bailed him out, when there was sufficient evidence without the film footage they chose to introduce. He may well get off scott free here, I don't understand everything about how the double-jeopardy law applies in this case. Even if it does not come to trial again, he will play hell getting to the HOF. I really wanted to see him do some jail time.
Tres
I am certainly not a lawyer Tres, but the way I heard it, the judge told the prosecution that the hearsay evidence would not be admissable, the prosecution then presented the jury with the inadmissable evidence TWICE AFTER BEING WARNED! The judge declared a mistrial because of prosecutorial misconduct detrimental to the defense. He can be retried again. Hopefully with a different prosecution team.
Rick
Hey Rick, 2nd ugliest uniform of all time on the tube tonight, oops! maybe third, I forgot about the ChiSox sailor suit with short pants uni. Brown, Yellow, & Orange....Oh my! Didn't they call that uniform Beans & Cheese? Where's the tortilla??? BTW, helluva game, more Baseball Torture. On to the 12th.
Think Game Over Giants!!!

I doubt they'll re-try Clemens, but hope they do. I'd like to see all the roiders stats deleted.
