Haven't been paying attention.I guess I will look to see what's on it
They'll play a legendary amphitheater in Gelsenkirchen on 20 July.
And an orchester of 50 musicians will support them.
I'd love to see them but it's during a week and I have no idea whether I can make it.

Who has seen Deep Purple recently live?
Do they still rock?
And an orchester of 50 musicians will support them. Do they still rock?
Oh no! When rock groups go symphonic it´s the end!

saw them 2 years ago and they rocked. the sound was terrible there but the setlist and especially steve morse were great.
it was a kind of best of evening and for sure they are one of the best hardrock band that exisits. gillan is no more the singer he was but still got a lot of presence on stage, glover a very active bass player and paice a great drummer.
i agree with günter.......................orchester and hard rock..................not really my thing, too. there a some good examples but mostly the band alone sounds better.

I tend to agree your statement is very Spinal Tap lol
Haha, you guys couldn't convince me.
I'm equipped with rubber boots, raincoat, winter jacket, umbrella .... and ready to mud-rock.
I'll let you know what I liked more: Deep Purple or the Orchestra.
Last Song: SMOKE ON THE WATER That song alone was worth going.
I'm still singing SMOKE ON THE WATER AND FIRE IN THE SKY ...
All in all I had great fun. It was a great evening sitting outside of the Gelsenkirchen Amphitheatre at the banks of the Rhein-Herne-Canal with some other 100 non-paying spectators.
Great thing was, we (outside the Amphitheatre) were the first to see the band and to clap our hands together for them and the band greeted us and waved their hands to us. That was so cool.
And believe it or not, the whole day it was raining cats and dogs and just in time it stopped raining. Didn't need my boots and raincoat but my winter jacket.
By the way, the orchestra did a great job.
One more time: SMOKE ON THE WATER ....
Good night.

SMOKE ON THE WATER - Live @ Amphitheatre Gelsenkirchen 20 July 2011
Would be a nice place in the HEART of the Ruhrpott for a Joe open air concert.
Just had a good watch of this dvd...
Sad to think of what Bolin could have achieved...

I never followed Bolin closely. His playing on Billy Cobhams Spectrum album was amazing.I know I read that Glenn(Hughes) felt he was one very special guitar player.Probably not fair to ask him how he and Joe compare(hough.I would like to go back and re visit his playing in DP again to look at with some years of distance behind it.
