Thought I'd just add a little perspective to this release.......

I got my copy two weeks before BCC "2" dropped through the door.
BCC "2" arrived and had some serious playing, but now I'm back to VATA as my current top play.

Sandy's right - Joe fans should appreciate this album as he's clearly a major influence on Virgil, but this young talent is soaking up many other players' influences like a sponge and the end result is very special. I think most of us that have seen the guys play were expecting a good sprinkling of Blues shuffles and SRV style licks, but they have taken us in a quite different direction with an album full of self penned songs that will make people sit up and listen.  And the more I listen, the more I find to like.
Those of you who missed the presale may have to wait a while now to get your hands on a copy, but I'm sure Martin will bump this up as the official release date nears. If he doesn't, you can be sure I will.

Totally agree Ian. I liked this a lot from the first spin. It rides in my car now as a regular. Go get it when it comes out folks.

That's right Stu - you won't find it on youtube. Kinda what I was saying about the different direction with the CD. You'll hear it on the album for sure - plus a few others. cool

Re: VATA CD pre release offer

Hi Stu,
there is really only older stuff on Youtube, very little Joe in it, the odd lick here and there. Although they used to do a blinding version of Had To Cry Today captured here by our own Michael Lynch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfv7tZurU9M I think Starship Trooper is there too and he is playing Michaels JB LP 005. Joe kindly mentioned to Virge that he dug the version but to slow it down 'cos thats were the groove is'. At the time I personally was trying to slow V down but it was trying to stop a freight train with failed breaks. So I just figured he would naturally progress himself, which he has. Maturing his playing a lot quicker than I expected. Virgil is insanely talented, its a god given gift, he has so much to offer and we are only scratching the surface.
The album is not a Joe tribute, some parts have a clear tip of the hat to joe. Virgil was SRV, SRV and SRV and when he was 9 or 10 he discovered Joe and it opened a whole new world to him.
That said, the album definitely has some Joe and many others too and lots of Virgil. As said before the vids on youtube are mostly covers and from a while back. We are making some 'proper' videos this week for the album. The whole idea of this album is too move away from covers as while folks like to see what you can do they start getting itchy too see new stuff. Plus you don't want to be finishing your set on covers 3 years down road (what I mean is direct covers, nothing wrong with making a cover your own, which are doing at the moment).
This album surprised me, I could not ask for anything more for a first album. It will put them on the map.
If anyone wants a copy email me via our web site or facebook page, I am sure I can find a couple of signed copies wink

It was a joke...if you click the link I included in my post, it takes you to Steppin Out/Rice Pudding. I hear a lot of early JB in their music, including the Working Man clip featured on their website. I like what I hear...a lot!

Re: VATA CD pre release offer

I would say the young man is progressing well. There are some Joe licks, and others as well as one would expect. He shows great promise imo.
I received the poster yesterday and will add it to my collection. Thanks Martin.  I have a feeling early VATA stuff will be quite collectible in the future. smile

Knackered?  What a cool word.  I haven't heard the new album yet, but plan to in the future. Good luck with that sunburn Martin.

As we got in the car to give Sandy Girl a local tour, Helen said, "hey look at the post box" and there were two of those envelopes sticking out. My Memorial Day Joe shirt and Vata's release, with the first included too! Thanks Martin! I donned the tee, which is very cool and off we went. We played it for the first time it as we cruised the coast Cali style. Joe has serious influence here. Virgil has picked up some of his riffs just as Joe did with his guitar heros. Stunning depth of musical talent IMHO. This young man has places to go. I'll give a more in depth review once the frenzy of this weekend settles but this is a buy it now moment if you haven't already.

So my first listen was in Rick's Bonacruiser and my copy was in my mail when I got home from Cali ... it's been alternating in my player with BCC2 and I really like it a lot.  Thanks so much Martin and best wishes to you and VATA!

It's OK Martin, just look for the little "wink" smiley pie face icon next time.........Stu goes w-a-a-a-a-y back on his dead pan and more pointed (state prison shank sharp-edged) slightly to rightly sarcastic (the mostly funny sides of sarcastic) humor

Love the CD and my Tee!!! I keep replaying the last track. Virgil has such a full voice!! It's a gift and sets him apart from so many young players. I prefer the bluesier tracks, but bow to his rockin skills. Well done!!  Cathy
