I think it would be good. It's a great way to introduce people to your music. Even if someone like one of the administrators ran it (like ZZ Top's myspace page, for instance).

I actually just did that yesterday, when I was reading this thread. I went on there to see if there was an actual "Joe Bonamassa" myspace and it said it was available, so to keep some jackass from getting it and doing something distasteful with it, i took it. I don't plan on doing anything with it, but if Joe wants it, he can have it. That's all.

I don't frequent myspace to check out new bands and I am not a myspace expert. What bothers me is that it's not regulated and people can post just about anything; good, bad, indifferent and incorrect information without being accountable or authorized. I do realize it can be a plus for a band to gain popularity. Whether Joe should have a myspace, should be his/management's decision and I don't feel expertised enough to say, but based on Len Bonamassa saying that Joe didn't even know it was there, it looks to me like Phil is looking out for Joe's best interest and made a good move.
 
Generally speaking, participants should be aware that college admission offices are beginning to use the social networking websites to review applicants and it is becoming more common practice for employers to conduct internet background checks...I think some people would think twice about posting some of the garbage that's on there, if they knew that.

I know myspace works great for a lot of up-and-coming bands, but I still think there are a lot of kinks to be worked out before it is an effective medium for more established acts to utilize.

The whole 'friends' thing is stupid. There is no investment in becoming a 'friend' on myspace, yet some people (and bands)are convinced that having a lot of 'friends' adds value to their popularity. But if there are, lets say, 10 million people on myspace, there is nothing to keep them all from accumulating 10 million 'friends.' In which case, they all may as well have zero friends. Yet, these 'friends' are not necessarily investing any more than a few seconds in adding you to their list -- usually to enhance their popularity, not yours.

I'm not saying that myspace shoudn't be taken advantage of, I just think that it has some pointless, novel qualities which will subside in the coming months as it evolves.

To me, it's great, because if there's an artist on there, you can tell somebody to just go to their myspace and hear some of their tunes. It's a great way to hear some of their songs without having to download them or buy the cd.
