Re: Grolsch Blues Festival - 11-12 June 2011

Cold, rain, nothing would stop me from joining you if I could. Great line up. Ana, Otis, Sonny, Ryan (who's going to leave them speechless smile ), and Lil' Ed who will make you dance. He is such fun. The Fez man. I can't wait for reports!      Cathy

Hi Hon, it's me - can't post as myself on Andre's pc - hope the phone will work from Germany later on, fingers crossed.

Again a wonderful festival with three absolute highlights:

Otis Taylor: blues meets shamanistic ritual and african tribal music. I got it why his music is called trance blues.
Ryan McGarvey: not only in my opinion the bluesrock star to come.
Sonny Landreth: guitar playing in perfection.

All I can tell you is there IS a campsite, 9 euros per vehicle, pretty much adjacent to the site in a pleasant German country town - I'm sure they have all the usual mod cons expected at such a site.  wink

You'll have to make yourself known to the rest of us, just look for JB tees, hats or badges.  big_smile

Amsterhammer, muchos gracias, i'll keep a beady eye open for the JB tees!

Nice meeting you Mike!!! Did you make it to your hotel in Paderborn?

Re: Grolsch Blues Festival - 11-12 June 2011

The days in Schöppingen had their own magic. Still dreaming.
Like Bibi I had not that much sleep. Wonder whether she meant our car-hifi-system, but it was last year that we played Ryan's CD forth and back!

My favourites in no particular order:
Roland Tchakounte & Band - one word to describe the sound: Africa.
Ryan McGarvey - spheric sounds but toooooo short. I missed so many songs we heard the day before.
Lil Ed & The Blues Imperials - dance party with the contact man. Fun.
Nina Attal - Surprise, surprise. A wake-up kiss from Nina & band. Young, fresh, funky. Hey man, they got me. Didn't expect that. Compliments.
DeWolff - Loud but amazing. It should have been dark for the psychedelic sounds.
Otis Taylor & Band - they put a spell on me. Absolute amazing and spiritual experience. Festival ended with a real highlight.

Schöppingen forever.
