Topic: BONAROADTRIP

2 shows, 5 casinos, 2 hotels & 1 mtn. summer house, 18 holes of golf, and 978.57 miles. 5 wild and crazy days. The two shows of Joe's I saw were both excellent, but different as night & day. SLO was a college town beer bar bash in intimate surroundings complete with posts obstruting the view depending on where you were standing. The sound was decent, but not perfect. Donnie made the most of what he had to work with. The show was great and got to hear the new material and met Carmine and Rick after sound check. The new line up is a great mix w/ the added dimension Rick adds with the keyboards. I was pleased to see Joe giving props to Alvin Lee by covering One Of These Days by Ten Years After which was the last song of the encore. Unfortunately it wasn't included the next night in Sparks due to a 90 min. time constraint in the contract. The next night in Sparks was outstanding in a venue designed for music and a table to sit at right at Joe's feet with Shredit sittin' right next to us with his fun bunch in tow. I brought a good friend of mine for a Bonabaptism and Matt was not disappointed. Behind us were two couples I met at the snow show in Tahoe last Memorial weekend, it was there first show since last year and they enjoyed it totally. The sound was tight, but it was a drag they had to drop One Of These Days. I hope that's included on the new CD. Another Kind Of Love is another new tune with a very ZZ Toppish sound to it which really rocks. Sloe Gin is a great slow blues and very cool too. Poor Shred was tryin' his best after gettin' in a wreck in his work vehicle and lookin' like he went a few rounds with Mike Tyson. You're a solid fan in my book amigo and it was my pleasure to intro you to the guys after the gig. Joe wasn't sure about the meet and greet, but he popped his head back in the showroom and I mentioned how many people were waitin' and that's all it took and everybody went home happy. Susan, once again it was nice to meet you and yours in SLO.

Re: BONAROADTRIP

One of These Days!  Awesome. I love it when Joe unleashes something unexpected like that. I saw Alvin Lee 3 or 4 times  and always thought it would be a great fit for Joe to cover something by TYA. I'm definitely jealous...maybe he'll keep it in the setlist until I see him in September.

Hey J Dawg,

Sounds like you had quite a little adventure yourself.  I agree with you that the sound may not have been perfect  in SLO but it certainly was decent.     I just really love the smaller venues.  It makes for a more intimate surrounding and to me, it seems like Joe gets more into the crowd and has more fun.  I don't know.  Could be my imagination, but I've seen him play in a theatre type venue in Jacksonville and although he did the "meet and greet" after the show, he didn't seem to be as into it.  I could be wrong.

Anyway, there are no Florida dates posted on the tour page yet.  I'm hoping that's gonna change. Maybe they just want to wait until after hurricane season, which just started.  I wouldn't blame them for that. Anyway, you still have another show in San Francisco, don't you?  You rat.  lol

Looking forward to hearing about that one too.  Maybe you'll get to hear them play "One of These Days" again.

Be cool, cool

Susan
