Topic: Nils Lofgren UK tour

Probably the regular gig guide watchers have already seen this, but the magnificent Nils Lofgren is touring the UK from the end of May.

If you have never seen him, you really should. They are acoustic shows with Nils and Greg Varlotta.

Sadly he doesn't come to Europe this time so I won't get my 30th time to see him!

Nils is a very relaxed character on stage these days. You get lazy drawl explanations of where the songs came from and what they were intended to be and how they turned out. The informality of it all is utterly beguiling.

What obviously shines through is his unbelievable guitar virtuoso talent and a wonderfully tender singing style. After gigs the man is a delight to meet and speak with. I am still amazed how someone so small has such big hands, but it probably explains how expertly he can play lead and rthymn at the same time.

These look like small venues where you will pretty much sat 'on stage' with him. Don't miss it.

I forgot to mention that in my earlier post, and clearly visible in this vid, that NO ONE I have seen plays the guitar quite like him. A unique stylist in his playing.

Also, as seen in this clip of Shine Silently, I have NEVER not seen him receive a standing ovation full of genuine warmth and affection, after a show.

He gets pidgeon holed as Bruce's sideman, but people forget Nils was headlining around the world before Bruce made it big. I saw Tom Petty open for Nils on one tour and was damn grateful to do so as it broke him in Europe.

If you love what Joe can do on an acoustic guitar then you should watch this guy play "Keith don't go". He's grown old beautifully like a good wine. Take in a show and savour the memory.

Just maybe i have to come to the UK after all........................

What a buzz to see this at 7:30 am, Mike!!! So, affection for Nils is something else we have in common.  big_smile I have loved this man's playing and his songs since Grin - such a shame that most people nowadays only know him as Bruce's guitarist.

I think I may have seen him on three occasions or so back in the 70's - with trampoline  cool  - and then a number of times with the Boss. I honestly don't know if I can make it over to Blighty just for him, but I join Mike in urging anyone who has never seen Nils live to go and watch one of the finest players ever!

Really, do NOT miss this man if you have the opportunity!

Bummer! No dates in Cali. Hopefully he will have enough time away from his "side job" to extend the tour out west. Nils playing in the E Street Band as a side man always seemed like a waste as was Sammy Hagar hooking up with Van Halen, even though he fronted the band.

Ditto George. Had a Grin album then After the gold rush. I used to love it when he did flips on his trampoline and still play guitar. I remember him wowing the audience at Wembley in 1979 when he supported The Who and AC/DC. I've seen him a few times since then including up close and personal at the Lemon Tree in Aberdeen. I'm going to see him in London next week.
