Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

RIP Harmon, Mr. Twin, Hall of Famer. Hate to see cancer win this one. It was just a topic on Yahoo News yesterday that the player silhouette in the MLB logo was that of Harmon Killebrew. Harmon claimed it was, but the artist said it was a composite of several players, but compared to a photo of Harmon it sure looked like him.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Reading through some of the many heartfelt eulogies, his stance on those who surpassed his records by steroid use was memorable. "I hope they never get voted into the Hall of Fame." The Minnesota Twins plan on hanging his #3 uniform every game this season in the dugout.  I remember seeing him play as a youngster when the All Star Games were first televised and my dad telling me what a great player he was.
Hammerin Harmon, gone but not forgotten.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

What a difference a coma makes! The Giants are in Chavez Ravine tonight playin' the fargin' Doyers. The stadium is half empty and The Giants announcers mentioned there's a large police presence. I don't think the freeway traffic has anything to do with the attendance, but perhaps the gang bangers don't want to come out with that many police in attendance, ya think? Hey homey I gotta few warrants on my head. Brian Stow is back in the Bay Area, but still remains in a coma, I'm sure he's in the thoughts of all the Giants tonight. If you're a baseball fan, PLEASE, respect the others in attendance around you. It's just a game!!!

                                                                                                                            Peace Out!!!,

Agreed. Now the reward is up to $50K and a billboard company in LA has donated space and the police composit sketches are there for all to see. Only a matter of time until one of their acquaintances decides the money is worth the phone call. If it keeps the "bangers" out of Chavez Ravine, all the better. Seems like some Dodger fans want to emulate the Raider hard core.

Rick that's old news, the reward has been @ $100,000.00 for a month or so and yesterday it doubled to 200K. It won't be long before someone snitches on 'em. The attendance last night could be a multi faceted problem including the ownership mess, but one things for sure you never see Chavez that empty when the Giants are in town. As far as the Raider mentality goes, it wouldn't surprise me if those 2 thugs are fans from the days the silver & black spent in Watts. The Raiders fans were a classy & proud, but peaceful group before the team went to LA. When they returned it was a whole different scene, and not a very pretty one.

Thanks for the update. We're kinda out of the loop down here. Baseball has taken a back burner with the Pads holding down last place very well.  roll Fans are staying away in droves now that the owners have decided to sit on the cash. We get that part of the Raider nation each time they play here so it makes sense. Short commute.

I knew that 200 large would flip one of their homeboys. Just heard on the TV news that multiple arrests have been made in LA in the Brian Stow assault case. Details are sketchy, but this will no doubt break nationally later today. Hopefully this case may decrease violence @ sporting events.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

worse than I thought on Buster, looks like he's gone for the year. I do think the league needs to review the collisions at home plate, the catcher is just too vulnerable in a situation like that one last night. maybe force the runner to attempt to tag the plate rather than just barreling into the catcher full speed. I dunno, it's always been acceptable and part of the game, but entire careers can be lost in a single play. too much like football if you ask me. any thoughts?

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

I have thoughts. Catcher is a super tough guy spot, the only position that requires physical contact. Collisions at the plate are part of the game IMO, the catcher has the right and responsibility to block the plate and the runner has the option to either use a deft evasive maneuver to evade the block or pile into him if he thinks he can dislodge the ball. Most catchers are built like linebackers and a runner that is taking one on head to head has to realize the risk of injury.
Hey Tres, we got 3 last night.  yikes  big_smile Thanks for the road trip now. Every player is on notice he is on the block, owner and gm are making this swing to observe. Nothing like a little pressure...

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

You're right Tres, which way does the league go with this. It's always been the way you play it when there's a close play @ home. Second basemen are just as vulnerable as is every batter that steps into the batters box, that's baseball, no matter what level you play at the game has its risks.

On the Stow situation, I hope the LAPD have the right guy, but they're known to let people get away with murder, right O.J.? For all you Bonds haters out there it was made public by the Stow families attorney, at his press conference regarding suing the Dodgers over lack of security, that Barry Bonds told the Stow family he would take care of Brian's childrens college tuition. Barry made this gesture to the family last month and didn't intend it to be made public, ahh lawyers, no wonder they're the brunt of many a joke.

Hey Rick, how about a little respect for all the shortstops and second basemen that get intentionally mowed down turning double plays on a daily basis?

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

More chaos in Dodgerland. During yesterdays game a fire broke out in a store room sending smoke drifting through part of the stadium. The game continued while fans were moved from the sections above the area where the fire was being contained. The Marlins prevailed beating the Dodgers, which is the least they could do for the Giants after beating us and takin' out Posey for the season.

Not exactly baseball, but related. A big shout out to our UCSD Tritons ladies softball team. Div. 2 National Champions! Beat #1 seed UA Huntsville 10-3. Hey Tres, what a time for our reserve catcher to hit his first ever dinger (in his 10 year career). Thanks for the lift.  wink

Love the Cubs, but some planets/players would need to align for that to happen. Career years by Dempster, Big Z and Garza and a re-emergence by Randy Wells might be a good start.
Starlin Castro and Tyler Colvin having stellar sophomore years?
Aramis Ramirez hitting like he can? Soto? Carlos Marmol?
Ain't sure it can all come together...pessimism comes with the territory when you're a Cubs fan!
Now them White Sox are being sold short and I predict the will win their division if Dunn is Dunn and Peavy stays healthy.

Crap, I've been living in Chicago way too long. The sox seem to be coming alive, but the planets are aligning AGAINST the cubs...not surprising to me, just more of the same.
