Topic: Cornell Dupree Passes Away

Didn't want to step on the Robert Johnson / Joe Bonamassa celebrations on May 8th, so I waited over a week. 
Those who care, and they are those who know, sad news on Cornell Dupree passing away May 8th, 2011.   sad  One of the best.  sad

A huge loss to the R&B/Soul, Jazz, and Funk scene. If you wanted the best you called Cornell. The man may have set records as to how many sessions he sat in on.

I've always like the Neapolitan ice cream myself.

I doubt if you posted this on Snoop Dogg's forum that many people over there would know who you are talking about.  This forum does very well for its varied musical contributions.

It was nice that Rocket opened this thread, sorry about the circumstances.  And hopefully maybe some more people will have some more sentiments about Mr. Dupree.  Now I know of him because of King Curtis.  Unfortunately not all of the best musicians and their contributions are known by the mainstream public.  Also session musicians go under the radar a number of times because they are the work horses and are not out there in front of the camera.  But it's great when they get credit and people recognize their work.  Maybe you can fill the forum in on more of what songs that stands out for you regarding Cornell Dupree?  When you mention some of those songs, the magic will happen.

As I said in a prior post this is how I was introduced to Cornell Dupree, by the great King Curtis. Feeling hungry tonight for some "Memphis Soul Stew"  This is exactly what I love about music.

An old friend, keyboardist John(T-Bone) Hammond, put together a combo for my best friends wedding in 1990 which included Barry Finnerty on guitar and Bernard Purdie on drums. I was blown away when T-Bone showed up with Bernard. After my obligatory Best Man toast I rapped with Bernard and during each break. Such a nice guy and I told him another close friend was a huge fan after hearing him on a Jackie Lomax album. I asked him for an autograph for my buddy Joe and he personalized it with a brief note thanking him for the support. First class guy and one of the best drummers ever with that signature high hat sound.
