Get ready guys, saw Tommy last night at the intimate Toot's Tavern in Crocket cross the river. There's been a few changes within the TCB, Ronnie Smith their drummer called it quits to be home with the kids more and his replacement is a young gun named Byron who's up to the task and workin' on getting comfortable with the material. Steve the long time sound man/road mgr. is directing operations other than the sound board from home too. As dknight mentioned, Tommy's put his Strat down in favor of his new Gibson Firebird. He told me he loves the sound and feel and the ol' Strat is just a backup nowadays. Tommy resurrected some older material last night and Tom Poole mentioned they have a rehearsal Thur. so there may be a shake up in the setlist on Fri. night @ the Coach House. Hope you have as much fun as I did last night. Make sure to see Janey @ the merch table and tell her John in Benicia says hello.

                                                                                                                        J Dawg

Will do JDawg. He played the 'bird a lot down here the last time we saw him as well. I'll be happy to hear him play just about any old thing that comes to mind. cool  big_smile  A gig a week from here till July for us now. On a roll and loving every minute.

Re: Tommy Castro Band

Tommy and his band rocked the house. In fact, even the other two support bands were good. Nice set list for Tommy with a mix of new and some oldies from the back catalog. He was in fine spirits and put on a great show. Dancing was done, Janey says hi as well as Tommy JDawg. I finally got those cool TC pick earrings for the wife, Rockfarmer snagged two set lists so we each brought home a signed copy.  smile Nity nite, time for bed.

Tommy said the Firebird is here to stay. No complaints from me, it sounded very good, although there was some kind of fancy pedal that he was ready to toss at the end of the night...fizzy sizzle wasn't what he was looking for.  lol He was down on his knees more than once fiddling with the knobs and wiggling the wires.

If you haven't seen TC, run, don't walk to the nearest show! If you have, do the same. The band is on fire! Funk, Soul, Blues and more. Bring the dancing shoes.

Re: Tommy Castro Band

Yep.  Great show last night.  The Coachhouse hosted my first Joe Bonamassa show, my first Eric Gales show and now my first Tommy Castro show.

Best of all Susan loved the show even more than I did, which means that when he comes back around, we there again for sure.

Tommy's one heck of a player, but, for me, the sax and trumpet players made the show.  Heck, I'd pay just to see those two guys play.  Really an amazing band and truly deserving of their 2010 "band of the year" award from the BMA.

Funky, jazzy, blusely rockin good time.

He was very talkitave to the crowd, which i like alot and after the show was very nice to the folks buying and signing cd's (and set lists).

All around a very entertaining night.

Then we'll see you two again at a TC as well. We'll see you next week for Eric Gales, always great to sit with you two. I'm upping some vids from the show right now. Just A Man is first in just a bit. A good shot of Tommy with the Sax and Horn men laying it down. Here it is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jOGV8I5SBA

Looks like the same setlist I heard, but I got there late and missed the first 3 or 4 tunes. If you SoCalers can't get enough TCB, we got him on July 23rd with Chris Cain and The Delta Wires plus 2 opening acts @ the 2nd Annual Pleasant Hill Blues & Brews Festival. I'll be workin the BBQ backstage keepin' dem bellies full.

Re: Tommy Castro Band

Well, a post box check delivered neither VATA nor BCC, sigh... There was a CD in the box though. At the last concert, I ordered the new release which was just to come out and there it was. One listen through and this is another winner. The Legendary Rythm and Blues Revue brings in a cast of stars to jam with Tommy's band and they all deliver. Too soon to say more, but this is a winner. Autographed too. Go get it, Tommy Rocks!
