Re: Clapton covered Gary Moore

I knew to say something against EC is like stir up a hornet's vest  yikes  but it would be boring if we all had the same likes and dislikes.

Re: Clapton covered Gary Moore

All I'm saying is Clapton already know he can play guitar, he's got nothing to prove.  Its because of him Gary Moore even played Gibsons with Marshalls.  Or anybody for that matter.  Beano was the first, before Beck, Before Page, before Greene, it was Clapton.  I don't care if he came out with a broom stick, a string and a wash tub playing rag time music to this song it was Clapton doing what he does best making the music his own.  I dare say could anybody do this with the class EC put on that night?  Clapton could have played that song electric if he wanted to but like I said earlier he's got nothing to prove  cool

For me it didn't matter if he played it electric or acoustic. And it's not about copying Gary. Just some of us said that particular version didn't move us.  For you he sang it beautifully, for me I didn't hear any feeling in his vocals or any feeling in his guitar playing.  The way he sings "So Long" in particular sounds blase to me.

"Holy Toledo"  -  Bill King   "Just Win Baby" - Al Davis  "The Autumn Wind" - Steve Sabol

EC did that 10 years ago.  Then he hired Doyle Bramhall the 2nd as his 2nd in guitar.  Doyle woke EC up from easy listening train he was on.  In 2004 I saw EC pull out the Dominos stuff that he had not touch since the Dominos!  Gotta Get Better In A Little While?  Ever heard it?  Its a house burner.  Then in 2006 he picks up Derek Trucks and does more Dominos.

I saw EC with Derek Trucks & Doyle Bramhall II ... part of the show was sit-down acoustic, part of it was smoking hot.  When they played the Dominos stuff Derek was channeling Duane Allman!  Even "Cocaine" was over the top!   Having said that, EC seems rather shy, he rarely speaks during a show which for me leaves out an important connection.  Also Eric has said himself he gets lazy unless there's someone really good around him to inspire him ... such as Joe Bonamassa, Further on up the Road I say!  cool

Oh and I forgot to mention Robert Cray opened and came back for the last 2-3 numbers!

Appreciating Gary Moore as I do now, I think it's awesome that EC honored him by playing this song, which is one of my personal favorites, and I agree, he would play it as EC, not try to be GM.

Re: Clapton covered Gary Moore

Sorry but Eric Clapton might not be the greatest guitar player in the world anymore even if he ever was, one there are a few things that can be said about the man.

1.  The man can sing as good as he can play.

2.  He can take an ok band and make them sound great, and a great band sound like the best band in te world.

3.  Its the stuff he adds that people miss that he does.  The fillin's.

As I grow older I've learned you don't have to like the same things, but anybody that really has seen one of his shows will tell you Eric Clapton isn't boring live, unless you hate blues playing.
