Topic: Peter Frampton

I fancy getting 'frampton comes alive'.
Have only heard 2 or 3 tracks from the album,
just wondered what the rest of it was like and
whether there might be other Frampton albums worth
buying..
I would value your comments.

Re: Peter Frampton

The whole album is excellent and a good mastering from the vinyl , well worth the money.

This was a smash hit album and the gold standard for West Coast stadium rock in the day.

Re: Peter Frampton

It's a great album. I still play it regularly. There's also a 'Frampton Comes Alive 2' album. I've got some of his
studio stuff but I must admit I play mainly the live stuff.

Humble Pie Rockin The Filmore will always be my favorite Frampton. He was only 17 when it was recorded, it also dosen't hurt to have Steve Marriot at his best on there with him. wink

"Fingerprints" is his most recent colaberative album and is absolutely awesome. Really well worth a listen and features such luminaries as Courney Pine, Stanley Sheldon, Hank Marvin, Warren Haynes, Bill Wyman - Really excellent Album

I believe "Frampton Comes Alive" is the biggest selling live album in the history of recorded music, if that's any help wink

Re: Peter Frampton

Thanks for all the replies.
I did eventually get round to buying the CD
and really enjoy listening to it.
The remastered version has a great 'sound' to it.
(maybe a little too much crowd noise).

I note that Mr Frampton is doing a 35th anniversary tour
when he will be playing the whole of FCA later in the year.

Re: Peter Frampton

I like all the studio albums Humble Pie did.  The one Jane mentioned is unique because it was more acoustic than later stuff.  I've always thought Peter Frampton never got the respect as an artist he deserved.  The Pie had Joe's producer, Jerry Shirley on drums and Greg Ridley (formerly of Spooky Tooth) on bass.  Both Shirley and Frampton were teenagers.  The main man in the band though was Steve Marriott of The Small Faces.  What I find amazing is how well both Humble Pie and Peter Frampton's music has held up over time.
This is one of my fave songs of theirs.  They definitely don't make music like this anymore

Umm, Jerry Shirley is not Joe's producer. That is Kevin Shirley, a South African, not British.

Rick - You'll forgive an aged hippie a senior moment........right? (teehee)

Btw, the guy in the video is Clem Clempson, not Frampton.  Humble Pie's self-titled first album is the one to get.  Here's "Earth and Water Song" off it.  All Pete on this one with some sweet guitar playing.  Man I played this album to death in college.

Re: Peter Frampton

I've got Rockin' the Fillmore & Smokin'(my ultimate Pie Fave) in my vinyl collection as well as Peter's first 3 solo efforts. Believe it or not, but I never owned a copy of Comes Alive and usually jump channels when it comes on the radio, just ODed on it in the '70's when it came out. I'm still a big fan of Peter's and another fave of mine is Frampton's Camel. Back to Humble Pie, the first few times I heard the Black Crowes, Humble Pie came to mind.

In Stu's own words, from a 2003(nothing dies on the internets......)

""A New Day Yesterday Live" is quite simply amazing. This album features highlights from the show which is captured on the previously mentioned DVD. I find it almost ironic that Joe will tour this Fall with Peter Frampton, who recorded the best selling live album of all time. With all due respect to Peter Frampton (and acknowledging that fact that I have, "Used Up" 2 vinal copies of "Frampton Comes Alive" myself) - Joe's live album is better. Much better.
Let me repeat myself here. "A New Day Yesterday Live" is a better record than the best-selling live album of all time. Of all time. Of all time.

In short, "A New Day Yesterday Live" and "So It's Like That" are two of the greatest blues-rock albums ever recorded. Period.
"

Jane how do you find this stuff? An 8 year old quote from a website that doesn't exist anymore. You're amazing...but then again, we already knew that...  wink
