Topic: Music in Maryland

(Thought of posting this in 'off', eventually decided on here.)

My first visit to Maryland.....without a Joe show, will take place from May 17 - June 7. But, I'm totally gobsmacked at the number of bands we'll be seeing at one concert and two festivals during my three week stay, so that in some small way makes up for no Joe!

First and really pretty much foremost, I will finally, at long last, after much yearning and drooling, get to see Grace in Balmer!!  tongue   cool

I have a pretty good idea of what to expect thanks to youtube and thanks to the many friends here who have posted pics, vids, and remarks. I am SO up for this. I wonder what Cathy will make of Grace since she's normally not really into female performers, and will have to get us there early enough for me to be very near the front of the line for this standing venue. I'll be posting impressions, pics and films here as my visit progresses, and I welcome comments on any of the performers below that I haven't seen yet..

Artists I have seen before and who I am very much looking forward to seeing again -

Little Feat
Dana Fuchs
Davy Knowles
Joanne Shaw Taylor
Matt Schofield
John Mayall
Devon Allman

First timers -

Grace
Otis Taylor
Bobby Parker
Ana Popovic
KWS
Ronnie Baker Brooks
Shemekia Copeland
Hamilton Loomis

edit - I made an awful booboo  sad  We are, of course, seeing Grace in Balmer and not in D.C. as I originally wrote.

Yo G Dawg, what he said!......LOL, sounds like an exhausting schedule, but no problem for a young buck like yourself. I'm gonna catch Ana on 5/25 myself for the 1st time, will give ya the down low if you have time to log on.

Hey Rhonda, I've got a tip for you too! Please try and get to the Old Rock House on June 1 to catch the very wonderful Dana Fuchs who, apart from being a great singer with bags of charisma and stage presence, is also gorgeous and incredibly photogenic! I'd love to see what you could 'with' her.  wink

Re: Music in Maryland

Man oh man, I hope you bring the track shoes. That is a busy schedule! I thought we were getting busy with 6 shows and 14 bands in the next month,(Blues and Zydeco this weekend with RF) but ours looks like a rest tour compared to that. Have a blast George, your Joeshow should be there now btw. Have the Witchy check the mail.  smile (burn a copy for BJJ)

Re: Music in Maryland

Jdawg and Rick - those are not all different shows! I ain't 25 no more!

We're seeing Grace the day after I arrive, then two days at the Chesapeake Bay Blues and three days at the Western Maryland in Hagerstown. Of course, five days of festivals stand or fall with the weather.  roll

BJJ, burning your copy from Rick will be one of my first jobs on Cathy's new super pc.  wink

Re: Music in Maryland

I am seeing Hamilton Loomis on Monday at the Beaverwood - he is brilliant.  The last time I saw him play there Matt Schofield came to sit in on a couple of songs - it was pure magic.  Hope they have a chance to jam in Maryland.  Matt was in wonderful form at the Borderline on Tuesday  big_smile

Have a brilliant time George and Cathy.

Pick up some double density dvd blanks, it's too big to fit on a regular one. May the weather gods smile on you.
