What happened at Dodger Stadium disgust me.....wait until the hated Dodgers come here to S.F.....Giant fans can get downright ugly towards Dodger fans, and trust me, retaliation WILL happen.....with so many parking lots located at odd places around the stadium, people can get hurt in a heartbeat....I'm staying at home to watch the games, been in a bad fight with 4 Dodger fans in the past, and my friends Dad of all people started it  roll .....

Wow Cathy, that's awesome.
For a brief moment when you said Portugal and infancy, I had a comical vision of guys holding the wrong end of their bats, lol.

The current issue of SI is a very good read for baseball fans, its the baseball preview. (my issue has the 5 Phillie pitchers on front)

Sports Illustrated playoff predictions :  Red Sox over A's/Twins over Yankees then Red Sox over the Twins

World Series:  Red Sox over Giants

Hombre-this is the second prediction I've heard of and they both had the Red Soxs winning the World Series!

With a 0-6 start and a current 1-7, I hope the Red Sox won't wait too long before they finally wake up  hmm There was a glimpse of actual baseball in their first game at Fenway Park but I'm not sure what sport they were playing the rest of the time...

Haha, you may be right. But I only watch some Red Sox games and a few others from time to time (the time difference doesn't help) AND I'm not really an expert wink

Thanks for the invite Tres. big_smile I didn't see any of Friday night's game, but it looks like I picked the better games to watch, glad to see Cole brought his mojo to Atlanta.  wink

opening night in Atlanta, come on down Angela! it's a classic folks, Lee vs Hudson. should be a great series, if we can get our bats going at all. If I didn't say it before, the Braves are ecstatic about having Freddie Gonzalez as manager. We had a rain delay I think it was last Sunday, they ran a 30 minute clip of interviews with Freddie. I was very impressed with him, a great attitude.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

The Giants ramped up security last night to World Series levels and 10 arrests were made for drunk in public. To Giants fans credit nobody stooped to the gang mentality that is prevalent in Dodger stadium. The teams joined together in the infield to ask the fans to leave the rivalry on the field after the game was over regardless of who won. Jeremy Affeldt of SF & Jamey Carroll of LA made the sincere pleas to the fans. To lighten the tension the Giants decided, after the team requested, that Juan Uribe be presented his World Series ring on the field instead of the visitors clubhouse as originally planned. Uribe was overwhelmed by the gesture and went straight for a towel to dry his eyes after being mobbed by his former teammates and a rousing cheer from the fans. The season is early and lots can happen, so wait till the All-Star break to start pickin' any winners. After what the Giants gave their fans last year they can do no wrong for now.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Wore my "gold" lettering Giants jersey to dinner last night, had lots of compliments....went to the sporting good store to pick up some batting gloves and came home with a $100 jersey...."but honey, it's a collectors item, they only had one left".....fingers crossed behind my back....Tim Lincecum has that heater back, they clocked him at 95 on one of his pitches recently, I still believe he only has a few seaons left until he blows that gun up  yikes

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Our starting rotation was in need of a lift Tres. One of our poor starters went 26 innings and  never got one run.  roll He's got a 1.6 or so era and a record of 0-4.  The fans are already jonesing for some 3a advancements. They didn't hit much last year, but this is pitiful. They scored 3 runs in 4 games against the Phillies.  sad

good win last night Rick, some of the bats came out and then Ludwig sealed the deal. Glad I did not stay up for the finish. To be honest we have not done so well hitting either, but power numbers look pretty good. Daniel roll had a good series in SF, but his average is way down. So who will bring out the bats for the remaining 2 games? smallball at it's finest.

I assume you're talking about Uggla Tres. His Mom & sister Jane refer to him as Daniel as well. Dan usually has a good game or two when he hits the Bay Area and takes his sister and brother in law out for some post game fun. Haven't talked to either of them since the weekend, but if he hit Benicia, as he usually does, it was probably Sat. night after the day game. He's been known to take Jane & Matt and 20 or more of their friends out for drinks and dinner and pick up the entire tab. Multi million/multi year contracts come in handy when your entertaining on the road.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Atlanta pitching coach Roger McDowell is probably sorry he was in SF last weekend. He let a homophobic slur or 2 fly in front of a fan with his 2 daughters and now he's got attorney Gloria Allred calling him on it representing the insulted fans. Let's see how this pans out.

One of the great ones passed today. Harman Killebrew, the gentleman's gentleman of baseball and one of the greatest and most feared home run sluggers of all time. Second only to Babe Ruth in the Golden Era days and a Hall of Famer with many records. RIP Harman.
