Topic: Rory Block

Anyone else listen to her music? She has been around for a while, but I recently became aware of her after hearing her on XM Bluesville. Been listening to more of her stuff, if you like acoustic blues, you should check her out.

Re: Rory Block

Rory is a very soulful songstress.  A bit of an acquired taste, but I like her music.  Especially her gospel songs.

Re: Rory Block

I saw Rory last night in Berkeley.  What a performer, what a player!  Authentic blues lady!

She had 4 orchestra model top end Martins, and she beat the crap out of those things.  She not only beats the heel of her hand on the body of the guitar for a percussive effect, but she uses a socket wrench as a slide, and she hits the wrench onto the fretboard for more percussive effect.

Soulful singer.  And a great story teller.  She met many of the old blues greats, and met family members of others, and she tells stories about them.  She also tells stories of the history of the blues, playing techniques (like how she found her slide), and anecdotes of her long career.  She's 62!!!

I've liked her for a long time.  She's been an inspiration for me since I started playing guitar, and last night just cemented that even more!

Re: Rory Block

I've just recently gotten into Rory's music, have four of her albums now and more on the way. Her song "Mother Marian" from Confessions of a Blues Singer hits me harder emotionally than ANY song I've ever listened to.
