Topic: Eric Clapton playing jazz now

Just read on Whereseric.com that EC played a concert last night with a full on jazz band and people are calling more important then his work on Unplugged.  It also said he played a ES-335 for most of the night.  Last it was recorded and is set to be released for DVD!!!  People are saying they haven't seen clapton play like this since Cream!

Re: Eric Clapton playing jazz now

Here's a link to more info.  I've been listening to jazz again lately after reading Larry Carlton's newsletter and the infamous Gibson 335 surfaces again.  I love to see this show, looking forward to the DVD.

Angela, thanks for that link. I am waiting for this DVD....it should be a nice collectible!!! BTW, how did you find out about this show (and the Jeff Beck one as well at the Iridium with the lovely Imelda Mays....) I would've loved to take my wife to that show!!! She absolutely loved the Beck bluray, we watched it last evening...

can1208,

I use to be a member of Clapton's fan forum, ECAccess, which you pay an annual fee for.  I didn't renew, but that's where I found out about Where's Eric. You don't have to pay a fee to get those e-mails about new news with Clapton.

I found out about the Jeff Beck tribute on this site first when it took place in New York.  Then I received a pre-sale e-mail notification from The Keswick Theater about tickets going on sale. (I pay an annual fee for this which gives me an option for the best seats)  After I came to the understanding that it was the same theme, a Les Paul tribute, I immediately got tickets. Seeing this from 3rd row center was AWESOME!!!

Re: Eric Clapton playing jazz now

Wow!  Eric & Wynton together playing jazz.  Blinkin Fantastic!  Cannot wait for that DVD to hit the streets.

Re: Eric Clapton playing jazz now

I sat center orchestra for Wynton and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra a few years back. Amazing, unbelievable talent covered the whole stage. Wynton did a 15 min trumpet solo using a plastic top hat as a mute. I could not pick my jaw up off the ground. I was dying to shake Wynton's hand at the end of the night. So me, being a plucky teenage girl, walks up to the stage door and asks if I can go to the green room and meet the guys. THEY LET ME IN! They walked me right back to all the guys! Wynton was playing chess, his partner offered to let me sit in a turn or two... they were all so humble and genuine. I think they were pleasantly surprised to see teenagers so into the music. Wes 'Warm Daddy" Anderson took a special interest in my boyfriend and I. My guy has played drums for years, took jazz lessons. Wes took us up on stage and let my guy take a seat at the drummers kit to hear what it sounded like on the stage! He gave me his contact info and told us to let him know when we were in NYC and he would make sure we got in to see them at Lincoln Center.

I can only imagine how great Wynton and Clapton must have been together. When I looked the week before the show, seats were going for 5K a pop!

They closed with this tune the night we saw them... take a listen!

This is sooooo funny. Shame that some artists have had the the youtube footage of themselves removed also but good to see some guys have a sense of humour and allowed them to be shown. And as for Eric playing jazz........Jack Bruce has said that Cream were a jazz band  smile
