Re: worcester show

Yes Rocket - I'm here - haven't had five minutes to myself since Thursday!

Lovely venue, totally rejuvenated show. Joe's entrance with the dark stage and the backlit spotlight coming up was totally wow! I don't think I have seen these guys having so much fun on stage since I don't know when.  Not sure if it is the Tal influence or just everyone enjoying their well-deserved and overdue "arrival."  Whatever, it works.  The highlight for me was seeing the Gigliotti - I am obsessed with that guitar - it's look and it's sound.  Perfect instrument for Bird on a Wire.  I just wish Joe did a bit more walking around during that song so I could get more pictures without a mike stand in the way!

Funny how Joe's music never gets old.  The set list may be the same/similar but it always is just a bit different, and once the show starts it is just two plus hours of pure bliss.  I know there are always a few complaints that the set list doesn't change enough, but part of that I think comes from the fact that people actually follow Joe around from show to show (can't get enough)-how many artists these days have such a loyal and dedicated (crazy?) fan base.  Any musician if you go to see them enough times seems to work around a "standard" set list - swapping out the occasional song here and there.  Most people want to hear these well known songs.  (Not saying I wouldn't mind seeing some of the older stuff once in a while, but I enjoy just about anything Joe is offering.  My son's girlfriend had an interesting observation.  She loves the original version of Mountain Time and would love to hear Joe play that version (more rockish?) for a total sea-change.  Bet it would be cool.

After reading the comment elsewhere about the beautiful bathrooms at a venue I had a good laugh because I noticed the same thing here - guess we are just not used to all these "fancy" places we get to see Joe in these days!  I do love these older venues that Joe is playing these days - so much character.  Glad there are still a lot of them around, and I hope Joe sticks with these types of places.

Only got a quick chance to visit with Guytron (Jay) and his posse from Maine before and after the show.  Thanks for the video - it will have to wait for the weekend to watch (stupid work).  See you in Hampton Beach.

Small snafu with my photo pass - a very helpful person in the box office and Warren got that straightened out quickly - thank you both.  I love the new lighting/backdrop, but I could do without the fog machine.  Pictures here (best viewed as slideshow):

Now comes the long wait to the next show!

Great pics, Sandy! Yeah, that fog machine does add a certain challenge, though it accentuates the light colors at times, which is not all bad.

Re: worcester show

Well worth the wait Sandy!  Great action capturing shots!
Regarding the setlist standardization, those that can, do, and willfully mix it up show to show are in the far and away extreme minority.  Maybe it is becoming more of a "thing", but really, I find it is more likely they play EXACTLY the same thing every show, every city, so I see nothing amiss out of the Bonamassa camp.  Wanting and getting are two different things....every Christmas and New Year can vouch for that (or Joe Bonamassa event, live performance or, for some apparently, recording releases) child's or dreaming adults' world.

Re: worcester show

Great show. Been seeing joe for like 10 years now. I have all the records and dvd's. He needs to change the setlists more. I went to the wilbur last year and just purchased the Alber Hall DVD. Pretty much the same setlist. I love Joe and all, but I also would like to go again. He's too good to repeat the same thing all the time. He's got so many great songs too. He should hit the road with 100 songs, not 20. Anyone actually have the setlist?

Re: worcester show

Sandy,

Thanks for some AWESOME pics.  Are any of them available to us schlepps???  I would love to make a poster and get Joe to sign it WHEN I get to meet him.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you look up to the heavens just before the start of every Joe Bonamasaa concert you can see Stevie, Jimi, Muddy, Gary and others leaning over God’s railing jockeying for the best view.
And if you listen, you can hear Stevie say  “ SHHhhhh,  The kids about to start playing.”

Thanks for the compliments.  All pictures are technically property of J&R and Joe so I do not think I am allowed to share them other than on sites such as Flickr or Photobucket.  Sorry.

Re: worcester show

As I sat watching this show, listening to Joe going from blistering renditions of Ballad of John Henry and Woke Up Dreaming, to hauntingly dynamic versions of Sloe Gin and Django, someone sitting in the seat behind me said, he's just unrelenting and i though, yeah that says it all.

Over the years i've been to see Mr. Bonamassa more than half a dozen times and i have to say the thing that really stood out for me at this show is Joe's vocals. I may go without saying that his guitar playing, performance and composition is out of this world, in my wildest dream I could play 1/10th as well, or come up with a song like Dust Bowl, Story of  Quarryman or Mountain Time, but Joe's vocals have transformed from the time I first saw him at Berkeley in Boston. He really has become the consummate and complete performer, and to be honest, i don't know how he and the boys bring it to the stage like that 2-3 nights a week. Simply amazing.

The other thing that stood out about this show.... Worcester has not changed in 20 years, take from that what you will   smile
