I have always loved the North Mississippi Allstars, but until last night, I had no clue just how jaw-droppingly brilliant Luther Dickinson is. Good lord, I was standing right in front of him about 2 feet away from him last night, and I got a freakin' lesson. After last night, he is instantly in my top 3 guitarists going today. JAW DROPPING!  yikes Maybe he's not underrated, as NMA have a great following, but I was thoroughly blown away.

His work on the black crowes before the frost until the freeze is really good as well.  He's also done a few really good sit ins with the mule

Speaking of Luther Dickinson sit-ins, he'll be sitting in with The Machine and the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra (this is a full laser show too!) for a few songs including Comfortably Numb, on June 12th at the Riverbend Festival in Chatt.  The North Mississippi Allstars Duo is playing the Festival that day too, on a different stage, just before The Machine.  If anyone wants more info, here's the Riverbend Festival website: http://www.riverbendfestival.com/

Matt Schofield - Very bluesy with a touch of jazz, a very under rated technical player. Unlike most technical players, he also puts a lot of feeling into his playing.

Philip Sayce - Very heavily influenced by SRV and Hendrix, but also very unique in his playing. Can be a bit too loud at gigs but certainly one to watch!

Simon McBride - A very fast player, always hitting the right notes IMO, and I can't wait to see him live next month! Another one to watch!

Great choices - excellent young players that hopefully will get their due

Re: Under Rated Guitarists

thank you Brack, I didn't go looking for a clip. How about Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, Denny Dias, Dean Parks, and everbody else that played guitars for Steely Dan, excepting Larry Carlton. This would also include Walter Becker himself. Dean Parks is the most underrated here, go look at his bio and all the top acts he has played with, astounding to say the least.

Re: Under Rated Guitarists

For me Jim Weider and Steve Kimock come to mind.  But then you get into underrated vs. unkown.  Once people come to KNOW them, they generally acknowledge their skill.  Probably a lot of the guitarists named here would fall into that category.

Re: Under Rated Guitarists

Lindsay Buckingham is actually very impressive live.  I was surprised.  Stylistically similar to Mark Knopfler.

Steve Winwood too.
