Topic: Acoustic Gems: What's Your Favorite Sunday Afternoon Music

Occasionally, as the seas get rougher in my life, I'll find myself listening to calmer music and most of it will be acoustic.  I've always loved good acoustic music and wonder what members in the forum hold in high esteem.
Last night I came home from the hospital and was able to add some nice acoustic stuff to take back with me.  The music I got was by John Batdorf and James Lee Stanley.  Batdorf sounds like Jon Anderson meets Seals & Crofts and with Stanley the two remind me of CSN&Y.  They did a very interesting album called All Wood and Stones where they cover songs by the Rolling Stones.  "Ruby Tuesday" literally sounds like Stephen Stills and David Crosby circa 1970.  I really like their solo work as well but the problem is there is little quality video of their music.

I also said this in the underrated thread, but in case anyone missed it Nils Lofgren's Acoustic Live album is a must own for acoustic fans.   One of the best acoustic albums I've ever heard.

I'm a big fan of Neil Young' acoustic work as well.  Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark are my two favorite primarily acoustic singer/songwriters.  Guy's lead guitarist is a phenomenal player, as seen her.

Yes, along with suhl, Neil Young is a favourite, Jimi & Andy McKee, Paco De Lucia.
Although not acoustic..... I love to listen to Michael McDonald on Sundays, Michael would be on my Desert Island choices!  smile

Can't claim any real knowledge of this guy 'cos I saw him last night for the first time on the French TV's 'One Shot Not' an equivalent to Jools Hollands 'Later' show.

However, I gotta say the man moved me and I would definately listen to him on a Sunday.

So here is a cut of Amos Lee, singing 'Windows are Rolled Down'. Nice song, nice playing, nice guy too.

Mike - It's funny your mention of Amos Lee as I was going to mention him as well.  He's a great singer/songwriter from Philadelphia and has produced quite a volume of good acoustic songs.  He's definitely in my top ten favorite artists despite a less than stellar latest album.

This would qualify for 'what are you listening to now', but if you have never given him a listen then this a very good place to start:-

Richard Thompson - 'Action Packed' - The Capitol Years. It is a collection of some of his very best songs. Good value and it features one of my very favourite songs of all time a track called 'Persuasion'. Its a duet with his son Teddy Thompson. The story goes Tim Finn of Crowded House heard Thompson play the acoustic music and loved it so much he wrote the lyrics and offered them to Thompson who then recorded it thus.

If you're not looking for guitars explicitly, it's hard to go wrong w/ Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Cannonball Adderly or other jazz sax greats.  I love the sax/piano/drums/bass combo.

Not (usually) acoustic, but the Grateful Dead usually gets played on my Sunday mornings or when I'm in the mood for something laid back.
