Topic: Davenport, IA - 3/6/11

Still recovering and not enough time to post an extensive review, but last night was a very special night for our Patty. Absolutely wonderful gesture from Joe to fulfill one her biggest dreams!

Still savouring it! smile   He knocked Davenport on it's fanny again!!!!  I suggested that he look into playing at the Adler Theater on this forum a coupla years ago.  I knew it would be the perfect venue! cool  lol

Sat in the upper balcony, right in the middle; it was my first time ever sitting in a balcony of any concert and I was very disappointed with the sound.  I'm pretty sure it was just the acoustics of the theater...regardless, Joe and the crew sounded very tight and did not disappoint.  Still, nothing beats the free show two summers ago at River Roots Live...maybe next time he is in town he'll be playing the iWireless Center

What a great show Joe and the guys put on!
For fans that have been clamoring for a change to the setlist...you got it!
I know the discussions have been about eliminating some of the old standards (MT, WUD, JGP), but there were 6 songs I've never heard live before!
During the finale, I looked at my wife and asked "how could anyone want to pull Just Got Paid from the setlist"? That song still blows me away after all the times I've heard it. The entire theater was on their feet for the full song...cheering, smiling, dancing and just plain having fun! Round two in Aurora tonight.

Funny you should mention that Bill. I had commented in another thread about changing things up and even throwing in a new cover in place of Just Got Paid. I took 5 Bonavirgins to the Davenport show and they were just blown away! A couple of them just went on and on about JGP and "what a way to close a show!" I kind of chuckled to myself on the way home and thought, how in the world could I even think about asking for Joe to take JGP out and depriving Bonavirgins of that experience? Not to mention that I realized I could watch him play JGP and Woke up Dreaming over and over and never get tired of it! Sure, I'd love to see him play things like Pain and Sorrow or Tea for One but I will just keep going to his shows until he plays them. It's just the price I'll have to pay.  big_smile
Of course I do have a solution to offer. By my recollection he played for about two hours and twenty minutes. He could start the show at 7:00 instead of 8:00 and play for an hour and a half, take an intermission for twenty minutes and then come back and play for another hour and a half or so.....heavy on the so. big_smile  I would be willing to pay a little steeper ticket price for that.

Have to agree-and I am NOT anal or jaded..the sound was kinda muddy-not very crisp and clear-BUT the show was phenomenal as usual!!

Re: Davenport, IA - 3/6/11

Where I was, left of center, about halfway back, the sound was great.  I could hear everything, Ricks' keys and backup vocals and Carmines' Mighty Thunderous new Bass Rig!  I could even hear the different pickups in the guitars and everything Tal was doing on the kit.  The new backdrop and lights look great, and I have never seen anyone use anything similar to them!  Great night!  smile

I was in row H, also main floor left of center. Agree the sound was great from there!

After reading posts for a few days I am starting to realize that any kind of JB fan worth his/her salt goes to shows (plural) not "a" show.  I guess I'll need to save back some gas money for the next tour as well and not just ticket money.  Just out of curiosity -  do fans ever get together and go road tripping as a group to multiple shows?  (not necessarily ride together, but meet up there?) Sounds like a good time to me!

I know they were just here, but the band needs to come back and play again.  The music is brilliant but the live show is killer!  I hope if they do come through again (Ames, that is)  that they book into the Hilton - quite a bit bigger and the concerts I went to there had the floor open so you COULD dance and move around.  The crowd at this recent show was excited but not very active.  I had to be content with just tapping my feet.

The first three songs from this show were captured by Renee in one continuous shot. I think she did a great job!
