Topic: Blasphemy: Hick Hop

I've never tried to hide my love for Country Music.  For some reason it calms me and I love the stories in the songs.  Imagine my surprise when I stumbled onto Colt Ford, former PGA pro turned Country rapper.  You have to do some serious cherry-picking with his output, but he's got more than a few cool songs.  Think good old boy doing early Kid Rock. Colt has more than a few young guns in Country music singing along.  John Michael Montgomery ("Ride Through the Country", James Otto ("Chicken and Biscuits"), Brantley Gilbert ("Dirt Road Anthem") and Jamey Johnson ("Cold Beer") to name a few.  Here's a couple vids for the adventurous.

Fair enough.  You've lived in paradise too long my friend.  Can't wait to to smell the intrusion of the honey wagon, watch the crops grow and listen to the crickets at night.  Yeah, it's pretty quiet on the dirt road.  Country is as Country does! LOL!!

Hey, I've got possums, skunks, coon and crickets, right in my back yard. Pretty country for the heart of the urban wasteland. Some nights the surf noise creeps up the street, then there are the sirens every half hour or so... You've got a lot of companionship with that good ole boys music. That was a ton of hits on the vid! cool

Rick you've been down in San Diego too long. You can git as hick as anywhere just by cruisin' through the San Joaquin Central Valley. Hell my ex-wifes 3rd generation "Grapes of Wrath" Okie from Redondo Beach of all places. The Central Valley is heavily populated with post "Dust Bowl" generations and country music is huge up & down I-5.

I like alot of hip hop and LOVE ALOT of Country. I didn't get past the first 30 seconds of the first clip. did it get better????  hmm

You've got to be strong.  It does get a little better with JMM doing the chorus.  Not saying Colt's number 1 on my iPod, but found some of his songs interesting.  Think of it as a break from Grace and Eric.

Kid Rocking up and down your block?

Detroit is supposed to be giving him some award of recognition... and people are going to be protesting it because he sports a Confederate Flag, which they see is against civil rights in the US. I don't think he sees it that way, but the others can do and say as they feel.

The Kid loves Skynyrd, thus the rebel flag and if he wants to wave one around.....well that's his 1st amendment right, just ask Larry Flynt.

I took the dare and regret it.  That's got to be the stuff you'd hear in hell - quite possibly the worst video ever created.  I'm sure Eddie Van Halen's on his knees thanking God he got rid of him after seeing it.  Total insult to Country music!

That's not Country, it's Bluegrass. I've heard a lot of Bluegrass artists put a bluegrass spin on rock songs. Diamond Dave needed to alter his vocal to pull off Jump. Others that I've heard that do work are BadCo's Oh Atlanta done by Alison Kraus & Union Station. Chris Hillman doing the Byrds classic he played on, 8 Miles High. I also have an entire CD of Moody Blues classics covered by some of Nashvilles top pickers titled Moody Bluegrass. One of the standout tracks, Timothy Leary. Give Bluegrass a chance.....it's good for the soul!!! After all, if it weren't for bluegrass pickers there wouldn't be any country or rock n roll.
