Re: Tijuana Bible 2/17

In 2003 my nephew and i flew to Dallas for a Stevie Ray Vaughan Fan Cub Convention and Tour. The first night in Dallas we were treated to a concert by Jim and his bass player Carlton Powell. I taped most of his performance and made this movie from that video. Below is a link with information about the tour.

Thanks for this, Roy! I like it, pity it took me so long to discover it here. What's the story, was this an informal jam you happened to stumble on, or what?

Cathy and I played Tijuana Bible a lot on our little road trip and loved it - some great driving songs - he's so much more than 'just' GT's guitarist, like Nils is so much more than 'just' Bruce's guitarist.  wink

Re: Tijuana Bible 2/17

Funny that this thread should pop up.  I've long been a fan of Jim Suhler and can't wait for the new cd, but today I discovered a couple of his earlier records,  Bad JuJu and Starvation Box and it's been a Monkeybeat day.  "Where Were You When the Lights Went Out" is the  song George Thorogood wished he wrote.  I think I like Bad JuJu better than Tijuana Bible.  Incredible talent.

Re: Tijuana Bible 2/17

I went to the Joe show last night at Dallas Music Hall and posted this info in the concert review section but thought it might also be relevant to this thread, so I will post it here too.....

Saw Jim Suhler before the show and told him I wanted Joe to sign Tijuana Bible. Jim said at the time he recorded the song "Deep Water Lullaby", Joe was sick but did a great job. Jim said that Joe was the only person he could think of that could do the beautful, slow melody. Jim wanted to pay him but Joe refused.
When I saw Joe after the show, I told him what Jim had said. Joe told me "Jim is like family, I've know Jim for 10 years, I would never take any money and that cameo is one of my favorites." he also said that Jim and George Thorogood were the only bands that took an interest in him when he was still traveling around in a passenger van.

I now have the signatures of Jim, Joe, Shawn (keyboards) & Andy (whose tattoo is on the back cover).

Well Gunter & Rocket, Y'all come on over to "Big D" and my husband & I would be happy to take you to the Kessler Theatre March 17th!

I have never heard David Lindley live...I can't wait.

And to hear Jim & Jason, is just as wonderful as "my Mother's pecan pie hot from the oven on Thanksgiving with homemade whip cream on top"!  wink

Take Care,
Lori
