Topic: Audience Partisipation in singing with Joe @ recent Crystal Bay show

I think Joe mistakenly thought that  we didn't want to be involved in his show. I can only speak for my self, of course, but I couldn't understand what it was he was singing. Whether his ny accent was a reason why or I imagine that alot that audience were, like me, just discovering this refreshing new talent and were hearing his music for the 1st time. I felt like yell " Just tell us what words in a clear none bluesey phrase and we will sing our hearts out for you buddy". Anyway, I sure am glad that he's finely showed up. I've missed the powerful rock and roll style that just flows though you that I remember from my youth in the 1970's. I promise! Will learn the words, but if another audience appears uninterested in singing along realize that quite possibly they just don't understand your dialect or blues style. Rock on!  CL Calvert

Thats OK cl......I think Joe got exactly what he expected. He doesn't want to make it too easy. A couple of nights before I got caught as the only one signing..........that'll make you shut up. All in good fun. I could see everyone laughing and giving it their best.

There are shows where the audience is absolutely blown away, and seem to be sitting there with their mouths open. I think this participation deal keeps them engaged and is a little change of gears. I don't think he ever leaves the stage and thinks "darn it, some people weren't singing..."

I actually think it's annoying when people sing unless they can carry a tune. I couldn't carry a tune to save my life. When I was in chorus in school, the music teacher said, "I can hear you over everyone else." Hence, my music career ended that day.

I think it depends on the area... People around my town don't do a lot of singing, but last year I went to a concert where the whole audience seemed to consist of professional singers! smile
The band (I can't recall which) was quite astonished!

It's extremely annoying but it's got to be flattering if you wrote the song...

Well in over 35 years of attending concerts I had never joined in with an audience sing along, I save it for the car when I''m all by myself, Joe shamed me in to singing along. Might of been the altitude and the double Vodka tonics. I swear he was lookin right at me when he said "there is at least 50 people still not singing." I have seen Burnin Hell done a time or two but still didn't know the correct lyrics till the next night in Chico when he enunciated them for us.  There is no heaven in burnin hell.

I'm pretty sure the lyric is "ain't no hell but a burnin' hell"
and that's what I was singing/shouting, as it's what I always
sing/shout along to the cd in my car.

And, I've just checked the lyric page on bonamassabluesrock
and that says the same thing.

More like There ain't no Heaven in burnin Hell. That is what I understood Joe saying. Of course after last weekend I could be mistaken. Not much sleep on the three for weekend.

But Jane...did you ask him the infamous "Mountain Time" question?  If I'd thought about it in advance (I didn't) we could have asked the sign language interpreter...I watched her carefully around that section but couldn't understand what she was communicating...dammit to hell.

Joe was needling the audience pretty good in Crystal Lake last month about not singing along with Burnin Hell and I heard some people around me saying "we'd sing if we knew what the words were". It sounds like there's a difference of opinion regarding the exact words, even among the hardcore fans. I was singing "Ain't no hell but a Burnin Hell"...Joe didn't correct me, so I'm assuming those must be the right words.

I am damn sure Joe sang the lyrics "THERE AINT NO HEAVEN IN BURNING HELL" at the Htown Bluesfest 6-2-06.

Tell me about the car i saw parked outside your door ? Tell me what you left me waiting two or three hours for ? Tell me why when the phone rings, baby, your up and across the floor ? Please dont keep me wondering no more.....
