Topic: Friday Night Is Music Night on BBC4 TV

If you live in the UK, or mainland Europe and can receive BBC TV, you may noticed that there have been some excellent music programmes on recent Friday evenings. Two weeks ago there was around 5 hours of programmes featuring Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers while last week There was a revealing documentary on Thin Lizzy followed by Iron Maiden’s hugely entertaining Flight 666 (Great to see The Caveman on TV) and a classic albums show about the making of Sabbath’s Paranoid. Great if you can stay awake until 2.00am (or can record them).

Tonight’s programmes feature Dire Straights from 9.00pm followed by a repeat of a Jools Holland Later show including Sonny Landreth and Mark Knopfler.

Next week’s shows look even better with a 90 minute documentary on Peter Green followed by programmes on Fleetwood Mac and a repeat of one of the Guitar Heroes at the BBC shows.

This series is an absolute must. That Tom Petty show was superb. Sky plus these if you can't watch them live!

Like Wooders and Geoff, have been watching this excellent BBCFour Series.
Last weeks Thin Lizzy was, like Wooders said "revealing". So, i will be watching tonight's Dire Straits. A band i never got around to seeing live.... I don't know why!!!  roll

the Tom Petty program about Damn The Torpedoes was great.. as was the live recording afterwards...

The Thin Lizzy documentary last week was really good... a lot of good interviews and footage...

this weekend's Mark Knopfler prog will hopefully be as good as those two / three..

Superb! Was also the first time i've seen Sonny Landreth on TV, after many years listening to his music.  smile

After a couple of weeks of reggae (not mt cup of tea), it's back to more familiar fare this evening with a documentary about rock n rollers growing old followed by a profile of Steve Winwood. Later there's Carol King and James Taylor at the Troubadour and a repeat of the Classic Albums show featuring Tom Petty's Damn The Torpedoes.

Should be a good night in front of the TV.

A bit late as these programmes start in 15 minutes. BBC4 is repeating some excellent Blues programmes this evening so settle down for some nostalgia or learning, depending on your age. Either way, these programmes are a must. Check out the link for what's on.

Or if you want to do it legally you should be able to later this year when the BBC iPlayer goes global. The only downside is that you will have to pay for it. Then again, we in the UK pay for it, so why shouldn't you.  smile

Tonight's feast on BBC4 TV features a nostalgic look back at the career of Lemmy with Lemmie: The Movie at 9.40pm UK time followed by Do Not panic the story of Hawkwind at 11.35pm.

Heavy Metal Britannia follows at 00.35 tomorrow morning.

Good timing ahead of the High Voltage Festival this weekend.

A celebration of 20 years of Pearl Jam at 9pm (repeated at 1.55am tomorrow morning).

followed by The Late Show at 10.55pm; a Music and arts magazine programme presented by Tracey MacLeod, with items on American rock including: Pearl Jam - Alive; Belly - Gepetto; Jane's Addiction - Been Caught Stealing; Dinosaur Jr - Get Me; Sonic Youth - Drunken Butterfly; REM - Half a World Away; Screaming Trees - Dollar Bill; Sugar - Helpless; Rage Against the Machine - Bullet in the Head; and Smashing Pumpkins - Rhinoceros.
