Re: Stoney Curtis Band upcoming release "Cosmic Connection"

Looking forward to this one myself. What I have heard sounds like his best effort yet.

When I was a child I spoke as a child, But all I heard was how I should get ahead,
Now growing up it ain't anything but all This indecision with these debts and doubts
And worries hanging over my head. When I was a child I spoke as a child,
I wish I could remember what I said.

Re: Stoney Curtis Band upcoming release "Cosmic Connection"

Curtis sent me a promo copy of the CD and it arrived Saturday while I was making an all day futile attempt at fishing (I did catch one 8" perch, so techinically not skunked). I listened to it three times through yesterday and had it in the truck CD player on the way to the airport this morning. I have to say this is one OUTSTANDING CD. I highly recommend it. A mix of good blues and high voltage headbanging rock 'n' roll. I'll make a feeble attempt at a review. Just get your order in on this one. You will not be disappointed!  cool

Re: Stoney Curtis Band upcoming release "Cosmic Connection"

As promised, a review.

"Cosmic Conn3ction" by the Stoney Curtis Band. Release date is March 8, 2011.

Stoney Curtis (guitars and vocals) describes his latest effort as something like Robin Trower meets Ace Frehley. All tracks are originals (no covers). He was joined in the studio with Aaron Haggerty on drums and Steve Evans on bass. They both tour with Eric Gales BTW. Jesse Bradman appears on some tracks (keyboards and back up vocals).

I've included links to video I've shot of those cuts that he played when I last saw him perform in Las Vegas.

1) Blues & Rock 'n' Roll - One for the head bangers. Trower? Frehley? The opening riffs say "Frank Zappa" to me! Some very tasty riffage during the soloing.

2) When the Sweet Turns to Sour - From Rock to Blues, Stoney serves up some juicy slow blues, closing it out with a very satisfying guitar solo.

3) Mouthful of Honey - Back to some Rock & Roll. Honky Tonk at it's finest.

4) Headin' for the City - Blues Shuffle, Stoney-style. Awesome.

5) Soul Flower - Deluxe Head banging, wah-wah infused Rock & Roll.  Maybe the best track on the CD?

6) Good Lovin' Done Right - Another blues shuffle. Superb.

7) Big Beautiful Women - Stoney says the Craig's List ads wrote this song. A High Voltage rocker.

8) Mary Jayne - Dedicated to substance abuse... Another head banger.

9) Infatuation Blues - A return to some slow blues. Excellent soloing.

10) Before the Devil Knows You're Dead - 1980's style retro power rock. Shred + Wah = smile

11) Rise Up - The first couple of times I listened to this track, I felt it just didn't fit with the rest of the tracks on this album. Then it hit me. This may be where Stoney's "Ace Frehley" makes an appearance. Stoney's dedication to 1980's long hair glam rock ballads with some tasty shredding. If you like Pat Travers music, you'll love this!

12) The Letter - The CD closes with what I believe is Stoney's favorite. I sensed a real pride in accomplishment as he was talking about it. Slow blues the way it needs to be played. Soulful soloing. Me likey! smile

In closing, I think this is Curtis' finest effort yet. 5 stars in my book. 12 tracks and not one of them is a dog. 68 minutes of pure enjoyment.
