Topic: Jim Suhler & Jason Elmore

Last night I got to see Jim in person at The Kessler Theater in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas. I have only played his CD's and seen him on YouTube....never "in the flesh".
I loved his version of "Are You Experienced". He said it was like Robert Johnson on mushrooms... big_smile

Three other guitarist played too:

Hunter Hendrickson, 19 years old
Jason Elmore, who plays with Jim on occation. They are playing tonight at Cadillac Pizza in McKinney (for those of you in the North Texas area)
Kenny Withrow, who plays for the New Bohemians and is Hunter's teacher.

It was an amazing night and only about 40 people were there.
If y'all are ever in Dallas, check out what's happening at the Kessler www.thekessler.org

After the show, I asked Jim if he taught Joe anything and he said "I taught Joe one thing...." Unfortunately, I never got to find out because we got interrupted!

Re: Jim Suhler & Jason Elmore

I made another trip to The Kessler to see Jim, Jason and David Lindley.

I was not disappointed. The surprise of the evening was when Jamal Mohammed showed up. He is the percussionist on Jim's "Dirt Road" CD. Here is the link to them doing "Out on the Western Plain".

Jason did a phenomenal "Keep my Grave Clean" by Blind Lemon Jefferson. This my favorite song that Jason does. I never get tired of him playing it and I always feel like shouting "Amen Brother" when the song is done.  smile

At the end of Jim & Jason's set, Jamal joined them for "Are You Experienced". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOVN-d7rOAw

David Lindley was great and very funny. I loved how some of his music had folk, Latin,Celtic, Persian influences.

What an evening!

There's hope that Jim Suhler will play a gig at Cafe Gompelhof, Mol in Belgium 6 November. I'm not really sure, cause the date isn't listed on the website and doesn't really fit into the other gigs but it's announced at the website of Cafe Gompelhof:

Belgium isn't around the corner from Nürnberg but not as far as England.
Maybe you should think about a weekend trip to Belgium starting 4th November to see Ryan McGarvey there as well. If you don't know what to do on 5th November, no problem: there's the Dofferbluesfestival in Schaijk in the Netherlands, where Ryan will play once again.
