Topic: Jamey Johnson

From Joe's recent Tweet:

Jamey Johnson's Guitar Song is the best new music to come out in decades...

Joe's musical tastes never cease to amaze me.  Did't know he was a Counrty Music fan.  Maybe hanging with Vince Gill in Nashville was a better thing than I originally thought.

Joe has flirted with chicken pickin' style playing.  I think he admires Chet Atkins like most serious guitarists.  I listened to "The Guitar Song" and it's pretty good.  It's actually a duet with Whisperin' Bill Anderson.  Right now Jamey is real big in Nashville because he perpetuates the outlaw sound of Merle, Johnny and Waylon.  My problem with his music is he sings in a monotone with little variation.  He's a gifted songwriter though and the songs he writes really capture the world in which we live.

Re: Jamey Johnson

A large part of his country licks and roots had to have come from his tutelage under the wing of Danny Gatton.

"Revenge of the Ten Gallon Hat" is the song I was thinking of.  Greg Koch plays like that, but it reminds me more of Chet than Danny.  Whatever, it's a darn good song that few humans could play.

There's a completely lifted riff off Danny Gatton on "Revenge"...It sounds like Danny on the Mind beginning to end in my opinion. I'd buy a 10 gallon hat and eat it if I'm totally off the mark.  And Rick, I would never classify Danny Gatton as country (only).  He's far too diverse for the label, although he certainly has it in him!  wink

My question is where can I hear this guy?
