Hey guys.
So the issues we had at the two said venues was that we couldn't hang our own pa. Those were house installs. I spoke to my systems tech and foh guy about it and they said it was like using a fender champ verses a Marshall stack. Next time we will work on getting our pa in to these fabulous venues.
Thanks
JB

The sound at Nashville's TPAC was really good last night.  A wonderfully enjoyable show!   No, we weren't one of the 7 people at 3rd & Lindsley back in 2000, but I'm glad were one of the many there last night.

Hope you get some rest after this tour is over, 10 months on the road is a long time.

Thanks Joe...Looking forward to seeing you guys tonight in Georgia...

It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me...and, I'm feelin good

Re: What's Up with the Sound Joe?

The sound in Nashville last night was spot on. Probably the best mix and sound quality I've ever heard (and I've seen the Stones, U2, Clapton, etc. etc).

Re: What's Up with the Sound Joe?

4th row directly aligned with Joe last night Nashville, TN, sound was a fantastic, a dream, sweet, kudos to Warren.  The slight building, crescendo of Bird On A Wire got a little muddled vocally, although the musicianship doesn't approach overzealous, but it spilled over the clarity, and I know it was only in the orchestra seats, which was floor level and directly behind the seats rose and the vocals were clearer.  All vocals otherwise floor level floored me, even though I could discern a teensy, tiny, bit of knackered, none of which detracts from their greatness. Rick's blend brought out even more exotic and subtle tones than usual, and the rhythm section was perfectamente!

Nashville was absolutely the best mix & sound quality of any concert I've attended . . . and I've also attended a lot of the biggest names you mention --- for many years!  I'm hoping for the same at Las Vegas House of Blues, as I'm bringing 4 Bonavirgins with me!

Added to the sound was Joe being so on!  I've never heard Joe's voice sound better than at TPAC!  It was one of those perfect performances from my seat (Row B, orchestra left).  Close enough to see everything, sound was not too loud (except on Iron Maiden when my husband's heart started fluttering!), perfect Joe experience!

Rocket, Joe's vocals were almost lost in the sound when the rest of the band kicked in but were perfect on Sloe Gin, Bird on a Wire, etc.  Where did you say the best seats are to hear the vocals?  I chose seats in the loge in Las Vegas, hoping for great sound for my friends who haven't heard Joe before.

Re: What's Up with the Sound Joe?

Hey Sandy, sorry I missed you and yours, so close I definitely saw you but of course no recognition...
I only lost Joe's vocals on Bird On A Wire, and that was only after the bridge when the band was kicked and dialed in.

PS-I didn't say where it is best to hear vocals, that is subjective.

Just went to his show at the Kiva Auditorium in Albuquerque, NM last night, and we left after 40 minutes because my husband and I could not believe the horrible sound quality.  We even went and stood back by the mixer to see if what he was hearing was good, but it sounded bad right there, too.  Can't believe they can do public events like this and produce such bad sound.  It was so distorted.  We barely heard Joe's guitar or the keyboard.  Everything was drowned out by distorted base sounds.  Reminded me of being a kid and playing an old mono radio really loud, and with the speaker on its way out and the bass turned up too much.  If others did not notice this, they need to get their ears checked, or they just don't know what good music sounds like.

Re: What's Up with the Sound Joe?

Sorry to hear about that, Ivy67. I think it's safe to say that that's not the norm for Joe. Probably depends on how much of his own people and equipment he's able to use in the venue, as opposed to the house system (as Joe himself alluded to earlier in this thread).

Before you and your husband pass final judgement on Joe, I implore you to try either the Live from Nowhere in Particular album, or the Royal Albert Hall video (on blu-ray if you have the ability). Those two demonstrate what live sound SHOULD be like, and what Joe and his engineers are capable of. I know, a recording, even a live one, isn't the same as being in a live audience, but aside from going to another show, this is the best counter-example I can suggest.

Re: What's Up with the Sound Joe?

Too bad you had an unpleasant experience. The two shows I attended had superb sound in San Diego and Las Vegas. This seems like a house PA problem as another report from down front raved about the sound. Down front is covered by Joe's amps and the rest by the house PA. I'll agree with PaulyT, give his live music a chance again.

You should have stuck around - the muddy bottom end got fixed quickly, at least at 4th row left where I was.

You could hear everything great, and it wasn't too loud like a lot of electric guitarists' shows!

That last sentence is fairly nasty, especially given the preceding sentence about listening to music on a cheap crappy radio.  SO you grow up and get snooty??? I am calling BS on the validity of your claims.  I wasn't there but someone else above commented on the same show and, uhm, seems to agree it was muddy at first, but that it got fixed quickly...Given that If Heartaches Were Nickels is within the first 40 minutes and is toned down, excepting a musical crescendo without vocals (and of short duration and no way you couldn't hear the guitar on that one!) I call BS and / or childish to leave less than 1/3 into a show if you cared at all about "good music".  BS  roll
