Topic: Virgil and the Accelerators - the future is in good hands!

Yes, there are numerous VATA topics, mostly to do with specific shows, but I thought that this 'breakthrough' really deserved separate attention!

Some of you will already know about the existence of some high quality live recordings made at The Boardwalk, Sheffield, many of you will not. In Cathy's and my humble opinions, these tracks demonstrate beyond any doubt what a monstrous talent Virgil is, and what as yet unimaginable potential the boy has (us oldies are allowed to refer to him as 'the boy'  wink  )

Their current tour manager and mentor, our very own mbcl, thought that people might think he was just blowing his own, biased horn if he posted these links, so he didn't. Cathy and I think that these awesomely good tracks should appeal to the vast majority of regulars on this forum in a big way, so I decided to blow Martin's trumpet for him.

Download this track, crank it up, and tell me what you think. There are 10 more tracks where this came from!  cool

I like too. Martin posted a link via his site for the download but I haven't received a response yet. Understandable since he is a busy man. This young man is going places!

Re: Virgil and the Accelerators - the future is in good hands!

I've just listened to the song now, it's sounding good, and more distinctive too. Virgil's still at a young age, but there's little doubt that he's a great prospect and for sure there's a great debut album going to emerge in the next year or so! smile

Good on yer George!

Yes - I've heard the whole set from the Sheffield gig and it's excellent.
Rob Bancroft has been playing some selected tracks on his Rock & Blues Circus show on 10radio recently, including a stunning cover of the Hoax song "Don't Shake my Hand". Interestin that he plad the recoring from the gig at the Robin2, which incuded a keyboard player - really liked that one.

Can't wait for a full album from these guys.

PS - you can catch Rob's show on Sundays 6pm -8pm GMT at http://www.10radio.org/ - you'll hear lots of familiar artists including Joe, and lots of our Bonabuddies frequently get mentions.

Re: Virgil and the Accelerators - the future is in good hands!

Enjoy folks, I do have the Robin recording, its not quite as good but good enough. Will see about letting that one loose. The whole idea of this is too spread the word and that is exactly what is happening. Virgil maybe young but his talent has put the fear of god into other artists when they hear him play. Technically brilliant but also plays from his heart and sole. His vibrato is a national treasure. Rest assured things are happening re the CD. At the moment I just need those of you who enjoy them to tell all your friends  cool

Re: Virgil and the Accelerators - the future is in good hands!

This is great stuff.
I'll be seeing Virgil when he returns to Sheffield at the end of this month supporting JST.
Really looking forward to it.
Got the next day off work so I can enjoy it with a few beers and turn it into a late night.. cool

What The Fuzz ?!

Re: Virgil and the Accelerators - the future is in good hands!

my opinion hasn't changed since I did a short review of their gig at Whetstone a few weeks back in which I said........

The rockin' songs are great as always but it's when they get down to a bit of jamming or play a deep slow blues that you can tell they are the real deal

I was thinking of Out Of My Mind when I wrote that and listening to it again @

Out Of My Mind - http://files.me.com/mbclewis/d2vraq.mp3

just tells me I got it right. These guys are heading for higher things I am sure.

(oh, and I liked the added keyboards when I saw them too)

Re: Virgil and the Accelerators - the future is in good hands!

Really enjoying these tracks! Awesome. smile

This isn't a dig at the band or anything, love their set but it wouldn't it be cool if it was primarily made up of originals rather than covers.  They definitely have the talent to do more of their own stuff, or at least pick more obscure covers that they can really make their own. There are so many awesome blues songs out there that people aren't playing!

other than that, awesome band!

Re: Virgil and the Accelerators - the future is in good hands!

Hi Jess,
these are very valid points and trust me they are coming up with some great new material. The band will admit themselves it has recently matured and is now moving forward. I put these recordings out there simply to show what a talented band they are. This is no window to their writing capabilities, the next CD will show that. I have no problem with covers but would also agree on picking obscure ones and making them their own.
The problem when setting out a young band is you have to show your capabilities the quickest and easiest way is with known covers and this has served the band well to this point. Now is the tome to move forward  smile
