Topic: New Joanne Shaw Taylor cd!

She has a new cd coming out called Diamonds in the Dirt..........due out Nov 9th...not sure if this has been posted or not.......i saw her 2x live and she is GREAT!  and for some reason i just found out about her upcoming release.

Re: New Joanne Shaw Taylor cd!

I am tour managing Joanne right now. The CD is an Excellent 2nd album. More tiff based and heavier (rock if you like). Pre orders have been amazing. They have had to re order before the release as all pre orders have exceeded expectations.
We had enough stock on hand for 4 gigs on Helsinki and they all went at the first show.
Tonights show was incredible and I am privileged to be involved. No doubt about it Joanne kicks ****.

Re: New Joanne Shaw Taylor cd!

For those impatient souls out there (like me) who are familiar with this new-fangled downloading malarkey, Joanne's new album - Diamonds in the Dirt - is already available at most reputable dowload sites - at least in Europe.

It's getting heavy play on my system at the moment and I'm looking forward to catching up with Joanne next month when I will buy the CD  (it's my age) and hopefully get her to scribble on it for me.

Great album - more riff driven songs this time around (which I'm enjoying), but still with that distinctive JST style. Go get it!

Re: New Joanne Shaw Taylor cd!

Sorry Joey, there is no slow blues songs on the new album. It's a solid followup but not spectacular in my opinion. The album is fully self penned and she deserves great credit for that. The sound is pretty much the same with no great surprises, Jo rocks out on a large number of the songs, others for me I'm afraid miss the mark a little. Should please her existing fans, but more likely to solidfy her existing support than gain a far larger one in my view. Still I hope it does well for her and of course live she never fails to impress.

Duncan,

It is a reach out to a wider audience and it is working. The more rock edge riffs was a great move. Time will but I think you will see reviews in more than the usual Blues publications.

Hey Martin - does that tour managing go on my side of the pond? I was happy to see that Joanne was booked at Dinosaur BBQ earlier this month but with my work schedule I wasn't able to make that. I did however get the word out! If you have anything to do with her bookings in the US, please get her back in Rochester (or Buffalo) on a weekend next time!!!

Looking forward to that new CD of hers too!  smile

Cheers,
TB

Major Tom to ground control...

Re: New Joanne Shaw Taylor cd!

well without having heard the cd yet im a bit disappointed to hear she moved in a different direction a bit..........maybe i will still love it i dont know..........i just think she really shines on those slow blues numbers ie blackest day, your time will come.....i agree she is amazing live and regardless i will see her next time she comes to my area....i still cant wait to get the cd and check it out for myself.

Re: New Joanne Shaw Taylor cd!

Not stateside sorry, although that would be cool but not really practical as visas make it too expensive. Will have a word about Rochester for you  cool

Re: New Joanne Shaw Taylor cd!

Yes time will tell. I guess the hard copy does not say 'file under blues' on the back like White Sugar did. Let's not understate the album, it was the best selling debut under Ruf records, and they've had some top artists. Make no mistake Jo can make great riffy songs, Coming Home from the debut is a good example of this, but while her debut was quite varied in that it included some riffy songs, blues songs and some of the more soulful or funky variety; the new one has what many will state is a more focussed sound. I think of it though as a more narrow sound. So I'm afraid I'm yet to be convinced that it will make any further commericial breakthrough in the places she has an existing fanbase, although clearly touring countries and territories where she's not been before will certainly lead to a wider legion of fans. I do of course wish her well and have both a great liking and respect for Jo, but I do need to be objective in my thoughts on the new album. With regret, my personal viewpoint is that the songs on the album do not match the high benchmark that she set herself with her debut. I'm very open to hear other's thoughts though and look forward to reading more opinions. smile
