Topic: The Dennis Jones Band…
Been rather busy of late, but I did want to mention a very fine band that I came across at this years Paramount Blues Festival. The band is known as the Dennis Jones Band and is comprised of Dennis Jones on guitar and lead vocals, Michael Turner on drums and backing vocals and Sam Correa on bass.
When I first saw a picture of the group that the Festival was using to advertise, I thought to myself, “Well, I’m sure these guys will lay down a blistering show”, and that’s sure what we got from them. Dennis has a real Hendrix tone to his voice and his playing is right at the top of quality players. Both Michael Turner and Sam Correa lay down an excellent Blues/Funk/Rock groove rhythm for Dennis’ fiery guitar work to slice through.
I’m really not sure how the Grafton Blues Association, which I belong to, got these guys to travel all the way to Wisconsin. It appears from their website that they hang pretty tight to California. I know Dennis had mentioned that all three men are from different parts of the Country, but are now living in the Los Angeles area.
At the meet and greet table I purchased two of Dennis’ three CDs and I must say, they both are excellent! The most recent one is entitled, “Pleasure and Pain”, from 2009 and the other is, “Passion For The Blues”, from 2006. I found all three guys very friendly and more than willing to give their new Wisconsin fans their time. Catch these guys when you can!

And four songs from the show; sorry for the camera shake, these old hands don’t do well when shooting from a distance.
