Topic: George Wesley @ KClinger's in Hanover PA this Friday 10/1

I know we have some people here in the right general area for this show, some of whom I know are already familiar with KClinger's Tavern.  I'm hoping some of you are reggae fans and that I can persuade you to join me there THIS FRIDAY 10/1 to see George Wesley.  Maybe some of you remember me mentioning him different times in the past.  He normally plays with a full band, but sometimes he does these shows he calls S.A.O., short for Small Axe Orchestra, which is his "live looping one man band".  This man is literally obsessed with live looping, constantly practicing and perfecting it... he plays guitar, keyboards, sings, and works an array of pedals, all at once, like it's second nature.  But besides his skills, all his originals are actually GOOD SONGS.  And let's face it, reggae music somehow just puts people at ease instantly, and we all need to take some time to chill out once in a while!  Oh, and it's FREE!  So just trust me on this and come on out and join me... it'll be a good time! wink

You can also check out George's links above to sample his music (what you'll hear will probably be the full band, not his solo live looping, but at least you can hear his songs), read his bio, and check the rest of his tour schedule.  There's always a chance I'll also end up at the 11/20 River Street Jazz Cafe show (but The Machine is playing the Recher Theatre in Baltimore that night too, so I'm not sure yet where I'll be).

If anyone wants to contact me directly, my email address is vikki515@comcast.net.

Oh, and I forgot... I noticed another show next month at KClinger's I wanted to recommend... Funktion on Friday 10/29.  Funktion is a real good rockin funk band from the Harrisburg area.  My son took guitar lessons from their guitarist and founder Tony Catalano for about 5 years, which is how I first became aware of them, and I try to catch them whenever I can.  They've had some changes in their line-up over the years, but the current band is the best yet... all members are quite skilled at their instruments, not to mention a killer vocalist, and they all play real tight together.  Expect a mix of originals and covers.  Always a good time!  It's a little too early for me to be making definite plans, but I may very well end up at this show, and it would be nice to meet up with somebody there.  10:00 PM showtime, no cover! wink

Keep me posted if you're going to the Funktion show on 10/29.  Are they at KClinger's in Hanover too?  (There used to be a KClinger's in Etters, but I'm not sure if it's still around.  They used to have some awesome Blues Nights -- saw Pat Ramsey & The Blues Disciples there twice.  I LOVED that place!)

It would be fun to hook up again... until Joe comes back to Harrisburg!  Hint Hint!

ChrisM:  Unfortunately, the KClingers in Etters is gone and has been for a few years, it's now operating as The Field House but I don't believe they attract any national acts there.

I was lucky enough to see Chris Duarte, Tinsley Ellis and Albert Castiglia there, that was a great venue, food, staff and brews were all excellent, though the PA could have used some reinforcement.

I may be up for Funktion if our band doesn't schedule a gig for that night.....not too into the reggae, sorry Vik.

So is nobody here going to show up for the George Wesley reggae show tomorrow night?  If not, I may skip it, as I don't feel like driving an hour to hang out alone.  Plus I'm doing a show tonight (Jim Weider's PRoJECT PERCoLAToR in Reading... see the other thread if you're interested in joining me!) and a show Saturday night (Cabinet in Wilkes-Barre), so I might want a break in between anyway.  But if anybody here IS going to show up at KClinger's tomorrow night, I'd probably still try to make it.

Unfortunately, I can't make it tomorrow night, plus Reggae's not really my thing.  I did enjoy seeing Jah Works and dancing along once, but I'm not sure I could do it again.  Now hook me up with some Widespread Panic and I'm there!  smile

It's so cool that you all have been to some local places where I've been (I'll miss Blues Night in Etters!).  Vic, we're definitely gonna have to try to have a meet up face-to-face again!  Hey, are you going to Joe's Wilkes-Barre show in November?
