Topic: Line 6 POD Studio UX2

Does anyone have any experience of these? I don't play in a band so don't have a need for an amp, so I thought something like this would be good so I can have a stack of 'virtual' amps without breaking the budget. Plus I can record some stuff as well.

They are about AUD300 at the moment - is it worth the money? Is there something similar that gives you a heap of Amps and effects?

Thanks,

I have an old Podxt that I use in a very large  (1500 seat) church situation.  It's not a perfect thing by any means but it's not bad.  check out the clips on YouTube.  Search Orchard Hill Church.  Specifically I cover Larry Carlton's Ink Blot.  With my 335 it doesn't sound that far off Carlton's tone.  I also do Carlton's version of Layla which is a Marshall plexi model but again...not bad.  The Pods really need a lot of tweaking but once dialed in they are pretty convincing to an untrained ear.

All of the clips on YouTube and Orchard Hill are the Pod.

Any questions feel free to email me.

Wow - I checked out the clips and let me say that you are an amazing guitarist and your band is top notch! I love how everyone in the band plays their part and no one tries to be the hero. I dug the Inkblot cover but REALLY like the Layla cover - bravo. All on a Pod, huh? Hmmmm....oh no - I better not start gassing for more Line6 stuff - I just picked up a DL4...  yikes

Gits: '03 Gibson Historic R7 Goldtop, '06 Gibson R8 Plaintop, MIJ '62 RI Strat,  and others...
Amps: '99 Marshall 1987x Plexi RI, 1969 Fender Super Reverb

Re: Line 6 POD Studio UX2

I have a tonport UX2, and I like it... I use GearBox software that comes with it.
It has online settings like "crazy train" and "welcome to the jungle" that match up the tones with the songs, it's a fun little game for me to click through them all and jam along.

for recording, i use garageband, and set the toneport as the main input.

I'm more of a beginner than an expert, but it does what the MBox does for cheaper and without ProTools.

Since 2010, Bonamassa fans have taken advantage of my JB friend discount = my cost + shipping. cool

Re: Line 6 POD Studio UX2

I have a POD Studio UX1 (the same but also for mic), and It is nice, there's some nice tones for recording if your not a pro. I find It quite funny but speacially for recording, I don't use It just for playing, instead I would recommend you to go for a real amp, even if It is just something like a Line 6 Spider, a Fender G-Dec or a new Fender Mustang...no tubes but a lot of tones and still a lot of fun using the different sounds without waking up your neighbourhood.

Very cool. If there were jam sessions like that every time, I would be tempted to go to church. For the music.

Re: Line 6 POD Studio UX2

DannyG,

Those Videos are great, I would go to church if that was the band playing there! Do you have anymore solo stuff online? Who is the other guitarist he is killer to.

Re: Line 6 POD Studio UX2

Thanks Big E.  yea, you gotta love a church that covers Pink Floyd's Time.. LOL.  We really get free reign as long as it ties in with the message for the week.  We cover everything from Carlton to Kings of Leon.  We even did a Foo Fighters Song. We toyed with the idea of covering Joe's Just Around The Bend..would be awesome.

The other guitarist is Danny Shields.  Amazing player.

Re: Line 6 POD Studio UX2

Thanks for all of your responses.

DannyG those clips are great. So the UX2 would be similar to what you have I guess? I don't really understand how they work at the moment. Do you play through a PC and output the soundcard to a PA or a Cabinet?

You are a great guitarist and that 335 is a beauty. Thanks again.

Thanks.  I'm not familiar with the UX2 and I don't see it on the Line 6 web page.  Actually though, all the Line 6 products work similarly and where I'm not a fan of the digital modeling stuff, in certain situations they can be quite helpful and easy.  Given a choice I'd rather have either my Fuchs or Mesa Boogie rigs.  I would never take the Line 6 out on a gig or on the road although I see the rack stuff in many pro racks.  I did a show last year with Johnny Reznick from the Goo Goo Dolls and his guitar player had the M13 stomp box modeler into a /13 amp and sounded great.  Brad Paisley had the rack stuff for awhile..maybe still does.  I opened for Tommy Shaw and Styx and he had a rack full of the stuff.

I run the PODxt directly to the FOH console through a Direct Box.  I use Shure In-Ears...no speakers on stage at all...8 years and I still hate it smile

With tweaking the digital stuff can sound pretty convincing to the untrained ear.

Watch the effects.  I hear some stuff back and think I over did it on the verb and delay..sounds too processed.  Except for the Pink Floyd clip of course.

Good luck and thanks again.
