Topic: Anyone else misses Joe's Budda Tones?

Just found the video of Joe B with Scott Sier demoing some Budda amps from a few years back.  Man that was a great tone...  Of course Joe's tone now is phenomenal as well, just miss the Buddas on occasion.  Not a complaint, just a friendly survey!

Just a ventured guess but it may have a bearing. Joe flies in to a lot of venues and rents amps and cabs locally to save on baggage charges. All the rentals I've heard of are Marshalls. His fly in kit is his pedal board and gits. He's dialed in the Marshall setup so I would guess consistency is the reason.

Oh I know he has his reasons.  Not a biggie.  Seems like back then his tone was a bit more saturated and not as articulate.  One is not better than the other, love them both as long as it is JB's hands!

Agreed.  smile I'm afraid the big time tour schedule has done away with the small club setup. Now it is his US gear and the Euro gear and the flyaway kit for his live music.

Re: Anyone else misses Joe's Budda Tones?

I for one do kind of miss the old Budda/Jubilee rig from his earlier days.  I've been wearing out "So It's Like That" lately and there are so many killer sounding distorted tones on that album.  Also, "Blues Deluxe" and "Had to Cry Today" have some of the best blues tones ever IMO.  His current tone is more refined and less "raw" IMO, nothing wrong with that.  I got a chance to play Ken's Superdrive 45 combo and it was easily one of the nicest sounding amps I've ever played.

Was that the rig he used on "Never Make Your Move Too Soon"?

Always dug that one!

The song or the album?  For the song I think it was the Jubilee and Superdrive 80.  He may have used the Jubilee/Jubilee for the solo section of the song but for the super clean Strat stuff I think it was the Marshall/Budda mix.

Can't say I miss the Budda tone, as when I go to rehearse each day... I just crank up my own!  smile.  I do think the best tone of the three he's running now is the Plexi/Jubilee tone... but the Budda Superdrive is a ridiculously good amp!

Yeah.... that and the Gigliotti with the Joe Barden pickups... that one was my favorite.
Always thought if I was going to order a Gigliotti, it'd have Bardens in it.
