THAT would be my recording of Mike & Marco, full show is located here http://www.archive.org/details/mikemiz2009-03-05.flac16 has Marco on 2 songs and Dylan Skursky from Cabinet on bass for most of the set.

Re: MiZ - I need to share this band!

I know Keith already posted the Trippin On Nothing link... did anybody check it out?  There's a multitrack version available now too... can't decide which I like better, they both sound awesome.  As I said before, even if you're not a Phish fan, give this a chance.  In fact, they're not even all Phish originals... some (tracks 2, 3, 4, 7 & 9) are just songs they often covered.  Talking Heads fans won't want to miss "Cities"... I wasn't even familiar with this song before, now I'm addicted to it... and there's some great soloing and jamming in the second half.  Being a blues crowd, you've gotta check out ZZ Top's "Jesus Just Left Chicago"... I think you'll be pleased.  The only Phish original I was previously familiar with was "Down With Disease"... some great jamming in there, and in most all the songs at this show actually.  As I said before, this band really gives Mike Miz a chance to utililize his guitar skills.  Twice he broke guitar strings and the rest of the band just jammed away til he came back.  John Kimock (son of guitarist Steve Kimock) was drumming for this show, and as Keith says in the etree comments: "Let me just say that for a kid who never played a Phish song in his life before yesterday, John Kimock nailed it!!"  Anyway, here's all the info and links... would be nice to hear some feedback, as I'm curious what this crowd here thinks...

Re: MiZ - I need to share this band!

So, did anyone check out the Trippin On Nothing show?  If you didn't, you don't know what kind of sweet jams you're missing... nothing like anything I've posted in this thread before.  If nothing else, listen to track 2 all the way through, "Cities".  This was probably my first introduction to this song, so I don't know how it compares to The Talking Heads' original or Phish's version, but this is great.  I love the chords and key changes, the typically simplistic and profound David Byrne lyrics, the jazzy groove, and then just when you think they're wrapping it up (around the middle of the song), they fall into this wild jazzy bluesy groovin jam... wow!  I can picture Joe playing that jam, actually... I think ya'll will like it.  And while you're at it, might as well let it play through the next track too, "Jesus Just Left Chicago"... terrific as well.  And there's plenty more good jamming like that throughout the show.  Not to mention it's a fantastic recording.

Re: MiZ - I need to share this band!

Thanks Vik for sharing Mike Mizwinski. I really like his music (and Mrs. Fingers, too).
And thanks for making me notice www.archive.org! I didn't even know that something like that existed. Since reading your post I've found some nice recordings of other bands I like (e.g. Tishamingo).

Just reading your post it kinda sounded like you guys were already fans of Mike, but then I saw your location is Germany, so I guess not, huh?  Well thanks for checking him out, and for posting... glad you enjoyed it!  And yes, Archive.org is a pretty wonderful thing.  cool

Well no - we didn't know him before. I think now we're two of very, very few Germans who know him...  roll  Thanks to this thread.

Re: MiZ - I need to share this band!

I haven't given Mike Miz props on here for a while, but I thought this was worth mentioning...

Last night his band MiZ opened for Blues Traveler at the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg PA, and it was a great success!  Here's the recording, you can listen on Archive... (if anybody wants the Blues Traveler recording, I can post that too, just ask)...
http://www.archive.org/details/MiZ2010- … sbd.flac16

Also, here are a couple videos Keith shot... he'll probably be adding more too...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rybGwqoHVkc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnIebuZl … re=channel

The MiZ line-up is different these days... that's Mike Daugherty on bass and John Kimock (son of guitarist Steve Kimock) on drums... they make a great trio. smile

This isn't the first time Mike has opened at the Sherman Theater... last year MiZ opened for the Derek Trucks Band, and sometime after that his Phish cover band Trippin On Nothing opened for Lotus there.  Mike Miz has developed quite a following in the area... a couple days before the show the Sherman Theater posted on their Facebook page: "OK guys and gals, it's time for the biggest party in NEPA this Wednesday when Blues Traveler hits the Sherman Theater stage! Come celebrate the 5-year anniversary of the Sherman Theater with us on Wednesday, July 21. This is gonna be an awesome show! And don't forget about MiZ, playing an opening set!!!"  Well a bunch of MiZ supporters posted saying stuff like Blues Traveler should be the one opening for MiZ, etc, etc... so the Sherman Theater then posted: "Alright, alright. We get it. So here's a revamped update. Come see MiZ! This Wednesday! (plus a little band called Blues Traveler)".  LOL  tongue

Re: MiZ - I need to share this band!

Here are 2 more MiZ videos from when they opened for Blues Traveler last week.  In the first one, you can tell Mike is really having a ball (love that guitar work!), and Keith managed to get some footage of "Lil' Kim" on drums this time (he's a real cutie, just turned 21 yesterday).  By the way, Keith synchs all his videos with his good audio (although it's still coming through crappy YouTube of course)...

Re: MiZ - I need to share this band!

MiZ opened for Jackie Greene a few nights ago at the River Street Jazz Cafe in Wilkes-Barre... wow, what a GREAT night!!  This was Jackie's only club stop this tour (his band is currently supporting Gov't Mule's tour)... in fact, this show only came about a few weeks ago, as the result of some urging by fans... so this was a rare and intimate treat, with probably less than 130 in attendance.  I like Jackie best when he's doing his own thing (rather than playing with other bands) and this was a particularly passionate performance.  MiZ also played a stellar opening set, and then at the end of the night Mike Miz joined Jackie's band for a 2-song encore.  The recordings turned out excellent... enjoy... smile

Re: MiZ - I need to share this band!

Ok, this post is not actually about the band MiZ, but one of Mike Miz's side projects, Garcia Grass.  They originally started out a little over a year ago as a special one-time gig to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Old and in the Way and to pay tribute to Jerry Garcia's bluegrass roots (as well as other bluegrass music in that vein).  It was such a success, they've continued booking gigs whenever they all can fit it into their busy schedules.

Garcia Grass is:
Mike Mizwinski (MiZ, Jam Stampede, Trippin On Nothing, Gongzilla) on Guitar/Vocals
Kris Kehr (Stone Poets, 9 Finger Saloon, The Recipe) on Mandolin/Vocals
Pappy Biondo (Cabinet) on Banjo/Vocals
Dylan Skursky (Cabinet, Trippin On Nothing) on Bass
Anthony Hannigan (Hickory Project) on Fiddle

This past Tuesday, Furthur (the current incarnation of The Grateful Dead, for those who may not know) played a show in Binghamton NY, and Garcia Grass played gigs at nearby bars both pre-show and post-show.  My taper friend Keith was there to record... these are both soundboard/Schoeps matrixes and they sound great.  If you're at all into this kind of music, I'd highly recommend checking them out... real good stuff!  Remember, even if you're not into downloading, you can just listen at your computer using the Archive links.  Enjoy!  smile

Re: MiZ - I need to share this band!

I haven't bumped this MiZ thread for a while, but here's something that may be of interest to blues fans in the vicinity of Allentown PA.........

Mike Mizwinski just found out last week that his band MiZ will be opening for Kenny Wayne Shepherd tomorrow night (that's Tues 8/30) at Crocodile Rock in Allentown!  This is an all-age show (must be 21 w/ ID to drink of course).  Doors at 7:00 PM.  Tickets are $20 in advance and $22 at the door... HOWEVER... there is a "Buy One Get One Free" ticket deal available only through Ticketmaster until 2pm tomorrow, using the password TMN241 (this is a public password, I have permission to post it)... that comes out to about $15 per ticket, after all fees, if you're buying 1 pair.  Here's the direct Ticketmaster link......
http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/02004 … nstone_miz

And here's Croc Rock's website, incase you need directions, have venue questions, etc......
http://www.crocodilerockcafe.com/

I'll be there, and I'm looking for someone to split the BOGO ticket deal with me.  I could even provide a ride from the Harrisburg area (or from anywhere along I-81 & I-78 between here and there), returning the same night.  I would take my son, but it figures he's starting a new job that very night.  And I have a couple friends who would like to go, but one has work and the other has a job interview the next morning.  So if somebody who's also flying solo would be interested in splitting the BOGO deal with me, let me know.

Or, if you're otherwise going to be at the show and would like to find me to say hi, look for me at MiZ's merch table, which I'll be handling.  I have long layered brown hair and will be wearing a tie-dye t-shirt of some sort.  wink

Re: MiZ - I need to share this band!

*BUMP*
Show is TONIGHT!
BOGO ticket deal ends at 2pm!
Anyone interested in splitting it with me?
