Topic: Guitar Center King of the Blues Finale 2010

Hey all, the GC King of the Blues Finale concert is going down on September 2 and I wanted to see if anyone else was thinking about heading up to L.A. for the show. Tickets are $20 and Derek Trucks is headlining so it's a pretty good deal...I'm debating whether or not to go, the fall semester will have picked up 3 days earlier so it may be a little hectic to attend, but I'm thinking it may be worth it...

No pick deal for Derek, don't even know the guy, but Jimi showed me the prototypes of a new line he's designed that looks like sea glass. Their translucent and he had 'em in grey, brown, green, & clear. Very cool, they look like glass you find on the beach. Not Tortex either, made from a different composition and not on the market yet.

As long as they don't sound like glass on metal that sounds like a pretty cool idea!

Re: Guitar Center King of the Blues Finale 2010

Haha I just realized how that could have sounded...I meant the sound of an attack on metal from glass ie shrill and unpleasant...

Alright, the show is in just a few weeks and my ticket should be in the mail soon. I'll have to drive 2 hours to San Diego after the show to get a couple hours of sleep before class AGAIN, but it should be worth it. I love Susan but I never got a chance to see the DtB, so this will be cool. Hopefully they'll pull out some of the old material I've been listening to lately.

To anyone else who's going, I'll see you there! I'll be the tall guy standing in front of you pissing you off.

The winner is from California. His name is Randy Scott. Here's a link to his winning performance:

Re: Guitar Center King of the Blues Finale 2010

I think I'm seeing a pattern in the King of the Blues competitions...there's a young guy, a black lap steel player, a guy that's a bit over the top, and a family guy in both of the competitions I've been to. The family guy has won in both cases...coincidence?? I think not! But that's my conspiracy theory for another time...

Randy was a very nice guy, I talked to him for a good bit after the competition. He certainly deserved it, hell of a player!
