Topic: Rush - Beyond the Lighted Stage

Just finished watching this excellent documentary on Palladia (Best music channel in the history of the world!). It's a shortened version of their DVD of the same name, but it was really good. It takes you from the very beginnings of the band up through today, with lots of current band interviews describing what was going on at the time. Full of great, old concert footage and interviews. Even getting pretty deep into Neil Peart's personal tragedies, with interviews with Neil about what he was going through.
Rush was my favorite band in high school, but they lost me after "Moving Pictures", so it was really cool to see what was going on during all those changes they went through. There's even a Joe tie, with interviews with Kevin Shirley about him arguing with Alex about not letting him use reverb during an album he worked on.

Re: Rush - Beyond the Lighted Stage

Yes an article in 'Classic Rock' has wetted my appetite for this docu-film. Even the band weren't convinced that they were worthy subject material for such a project, but were won over.

Glad to hear it seems as engaging as it sounded in the article. One to catch at some point.

I caught this at the flicks back in early June, then bought the Bluray.
Most enjoyable, especially the first 63 minutes when it focuses on "real" Rush. LOve the early footage with Rutsey smile

Re: Rush - Beyond the Lighted Stage

I keep hearing nothing but good things about this documentary, and I think it's even up for awards.  A month or two ago I caught the first half hour on I think it was VH1Classic, and what I saw was great, but I fell asleep (I was wiped out, I knew I wasn't going to make it, lol) and I haven't run across it again.  I don't get Palladia (or any HD).  I keep meaning to check Comcast's On Demand... anybody happen to know if it's on there?

Re: Rush - Beyond the Lighted Stage

Heads up!  "Beyond the Lighted Stage" is airing on VH1Classic TODAY from 4:30-7:00pm Eastern time... that's in like 35 minutes, sorry for the late notice.  It's being featured on a show called Rock Docs.  I believe VH1Classic has been playing Rush all day (ending with that).  Right now "Live In Rio" is on.

Also, it looks like Palladia is airing "Beyong the Lighted Stage" this Sat night/Sun morning from 1:00-3:00am.
