Re: Joe vs Andreas Varady

Here's the whip, here's the dead horse, go at it peoples.

When I was a child I spoke as a child, But all I heard was how I should get ahead,
Now growing up it ain't anything but all This indecision with these debts and doubts
And worries hanging over my head. When I was a child I spoke as a child,
I wish I could remember what I said.

I would agree that coming on and comparing him in any way to Joe was not the way to introduce this kid......but calling or refering to him as a trained monkey is just an **** thing to say...............

guitar1984, i have seen many vids of people playing on here and they usually get trashed so its not really worth you effort to post and argue...........its just kind of how this forum is...........

I would disagree on that is the way we are. Perhaps this is the wrong forum to introduce the young man. Most here are Blues/Rock centric. Some, not all, are into Jazz. We've seen him and are aware, now we wait to see what comes forth as he matures. No argument he has talent from me. Young virtuosi also are creative. Has he done any composition yet? YouTube is crammed with child stars, thus the skepticism.

Re: Joe vs Andreas Varady

In general i like this forum........i am here first and foremost because i am a fan of Joe Bonamassa............

i dont even know of the kid in this thread till i opened it...........what got me upset, was the refering to or calling the young man a trained monkey.......................i dont care if someone doesnt think that he has any talent.............a comment like that is garbage..........

yes i understand there are lots of kids, adults on youtube who can play cool stuff and then think they are the next guitar god...i get that.......and maybe some will end up going somewhere and most will probably not...however from what i have seen most of these vids get ripped to shreds...........whether they are good or not..........just the way i see it on here.

finally, i agree the way the thread starter introduced the kid was in bad taste................

ok thats it,,,,,,,,,,,,,im done with this thread

oh did i say...........i LOVE JOE BONAMASSAS MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Joe vs Andreas Varady

I think the kid is good for any age and that is what Joe would say. You're only 12 years old for a short time then you get compared to other players of any age. He may very well be better at Jazz than Joe at that age. I don't even know if Joe dabbled in Jazz at that time. I know he can play any style he wants he knows more about all styles than anybody I have ever seen. That kid may be the best Jazz guitar player of all time but I wouldn't pay to see it. Not my thing.

A friend of my sons who is one of the best players around town got into Jazz. He is as good as anybody I have seen. Delivers pizza for a living. Whatever floats your boat but people have to want to see you. To me the only market share worse than blues music is jazz. So sue me I'm a capitalist. My advice to the kid would be. Learn Jazz because you love it but learn another style if you love to eat.

Re: Joe vs Andreas Varady

I have posted quite a bit on this forum about jazz guitarists, and this is pretty good for a 12 year old. Honestly, I went to high school with a guy who could play all that when he was 15, moved away and never heard of him making it big. There is no comparison to Joe whatsoever in my mind, there are a lot of young guitarists today playing well beyond their years. He will have to evolve and come up with some original stuff to ever get close to the likes of Pat Metheny, Mike Stern, Lee Ritenour, etc.
wish him the best.
