Re: High Voltage Festival- any idea what time Joe is on?

New to the forum, and I hate to say it, new to JB! (Sorry about that!)
I was at High Voltage over the weekend and the best thing for me, all weekend, was the fantastic Joe Bonamassa.
You know when you see some bands/artists that are a bit hard to get into because you don't know the stuff?  Well NOT this time!  I was blown away and have immediately tried to get hold of some tunes.

Thanks for the set list, I was dumbstruck by a song he played, it made all my hairs stand on end and I just HAD to find it.  That song turned out to be Django, thanks to the list for the clues.  I've purchased it and listened to it I don't know how many times already.

Everyone has to start somewhere and I'm soooooo pleased I've now found out about JB, my previous musical experience has tended to be heavier rock, hence me only ever having "heard the name".  So I'm looking to see what album to buy first.

We were also about 2 rows from the front and have some amazing photos.  I wanted to get close because I'd heard how good he was.

Embarrassingly, I was given my VIP tickets by Classic Rock as an advertiser in one of the publisher's other publications so I was also very lucky to meet JB at the edge of the VIP area and get a photo with him.  I hope he didn't just think I was a sycophant when I told him how awesome I thought his set was, I truly meant it and it's touched me to the bone.

Just thought I would share that with you all smile

Welcome HellTel, to Joe's Forum! I over-heard someone yesterday recommend Joe's double live album, Live From Nowhere In Particular to a new convert . Not a bad place to start. I would then go back, and recommend Joe's early work.
Then.... there are the DVD's

Thanks Brack, that makes sense, get a good mix of everything then I guess.  I actually thought about maybe the live Albert Hall DVD too to watch the passion behind the sound, I'll see how far the pennies go...

Welcome HellTel. You can't go wrong with the RAH dvd either, but nothing comes close to Joe live. Post your photos too please. You can't post directly, use a site like photobucket or the like and post the links. We'd love to see them. This forum feeds our needs when Joe is far away entertaining others.  smile

Hi HellTel and a warm welcome to the forum.

Not sure if you are aware, but Joe will be back in the UK in October. Check out the tour dates link at the top of the page. He might be somewhere near you

No matter how far you try to push the envelope, it remains stationery

Greg Lake is HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joe was very, very good, got a good view - better than at Magna in Rotherham - but I scarpered during Blue and Evil, because he clashed with Opeth, and the Missus dragged me off to see them. I think, well I Know, that Joe will have made a lot of new friends on Sunday smile

Re: High Voltage Festival- any idea what time Joe is on?

The man's gig at High Voltage was fabulous, and was clearly the best of the day. After the show Joe meandered up to the fans VIP area and shook hands/signed legs and various bits of the anatomy/had photos taken. An absolute gentleman. Can't wait to see him in Newcastle in the Autumn.

Thanks for the welcome smile
I saw the tour dates  in the UK in a magazine today so I'm definitely going to try to get one, probably Leicester or Cambridge.  Can't wait already!

Nice shots Maggie.  I just bought a Lumix to use at Crossroads - they do have a great zoom, and take excellent videos as well.  Thanks for sharing these.

HelTel..Welcome. You made my day. NOTHING beats the report of a true Bonabaptism. Shock and awe!! The reported instant connection tells me you are "one of us". The best news is Joe and all the folks in Joe World are aces. I think the RAH DVD is a great starting point. But, you will end up with the entire catalog..it's the nature of the addiction!

Maggie..I thought about you all day. I'm proud of you! Great pics. Standing your ground? Sounds like you're learning some American attitude. I can't wait to do another show with you all!!

It sounds like it was a great event. Sorry to Michael and Phil. I know how hard it was to miss this, but family does come first.

Best to all!!   Cathy

I went to this, fantastic day, Joe was the highlight for me, he was excellent as usual, we would have liked another track but I think the timescales were pretty tight for everyone

Planet Rock has put some pics up on Picasaweb, but they're not a patch on Maggie's photos.  wink

I've noticed that it's possible to buy recordings of some artist's sets at High Voltage, but sadly not Joe's. I suspect in most cases it's just a last money making opportunity before they disappear into the ether.

While I was listening to PJ's show from Maryport last night, Mrs W was listening to Planet Rock, and a good job she was as there was something very interesting on Nicky Horne's show.

First there was a very emotional interview with Glenn Hughes talking about Ronnie Dio and then some info about BCC. Glenn confirmed that BCC will be doing some shows in New York in September and some TV too. These shows will be as a trio as Derek can't make it.

After Nicky played Bible Black a familiar voice came on, yes Joe.  big_smile
Joe said the set was boiled down to "our best bits and bobs"  lol  It seems the surprise Michael mentioned was to have been Glenn and Joe collaborating on Medusa, but due to Glenn's exhaustion from all the promo work for BCC and then commemorating Ronnie's death, it wasn't possible. Joe confirmed that BCC would be performing live on Planet Rock "straight to air, mistakes and everything." Joe says he's just a cog in the wheel of BCC and "I just keep the guitar in tune and hopefully I'm in the right key." Modest as ever.  big_smile

If you hang on you'll also hear India/Mountain Time from LFNIP immediately after Joe's interview.  smile

You can hear these interviews now on Planet Rock's Listen Again facility by going to their website www.planetrock.com and clicking on the "Listen Again" link and selecting Nicky Horne from the list of presenters. You'll be able to listen to the 26th July show for one week.  Just grab the block at the top of the pop up screen and wind it forward to 100 minutes to hear the interviews.

Enjoy.  wink
