Topic: Joe in Toulouse France 07/06/10

Hi everyone!
I'm just back from the Joe/ZZ Top show in Toulouse. It was a great show although it's hard to accept that Joe was the opening act for ZZ Top and he played for 50 minutes only... (well ZZ Top only played for an hour and 25 minutes, and I think that for a 70$ worth ticket that's showing disrespect to the fans... For such a price they should at least play for two hours!)

I can't remember the order of the songs for sure but it must be close to this:
Ballad of John Henry
Last Kiss
So Many Roads
Further on up the Road
Sloe Gin
So it's Like That
Ain't Done Nothing in the World (not sure that's the exact title... oops...)

The highlight was Sloe Gin obviously. Some guys near me didn't even know about Joe. I think they do know him now. Joe's fan base will increase dramatically that's for sure. The guys near me are now converted. Sometimes I felt like I was an apostle showing God to lost souls. Joe doesn't need me that's for sure, but it was nice being close to these guys during their metamorphosis...

That was my 3rd Joe show. He blew me away again. The solos on So It's Like That are just amazing! I hope there will be more to come, but next time I hope I'll see him play for at least two hours!
Cheers!

Young Man Blues. I believe

Glad you enjoyed the show. It's interesting that Joe did not play anything from Black Rock. I wonder if Joe no longer likes the album.

Re: Joe in Toulouse France 07/06/10

Well a 50-minute rig goes by very very fast. I'm in a band myself and I know that such small gigs are great for the intensity they entail but that they are very frustrating too. Hell when you're finally well settled in and you want to blast the house you have to leave the stage... Seven/eight songs and bam it's over. I still wish he had played Quarryman's Lament but in such a short time he must play more rock-oriented songs than usual (Sloe Gin is the exception I know he can't dodge that one, it's too amazing), expecially since he opened for ZZ Top.

So I don't think it means that he doesn't like Black Rock anymore. There are sheer jewels in there... It's just that he had no time to incorporate any Black Rock songs.

I won't miss another Joe show if he comes close to my home. I've never been anyone's fan to this extent in my life... He's the only guy who could make me travel to get to see him. And let me tell you that I'd have a JBLP if it wasn't that expensive...

Cheers!

It's great to be reading show reviews again. Thanks for taking the time to share. We will encourage your addiction to Joe. We are all in this together. You can't say "I sure got it bad", until you have traveled, and I mean put in some miles!! You'll learn to do without lots of things in order to feed this habit. And like many of us here, you will be very happy!! Welcome aboard! Cathy

Always astounds me how far  some people will go for joe or any fave band.Do we take paid leave,if at work, plan whole gaggles of gigs, how much do we spend,do we have sympathetic partners, hotels?I get 21 days annual leave -YES,21! that's the uk construction industry for you-- so factor in christmas, easter, summer hols, days off are precious.I'd love a week following Joe when he's here,or my other fave band Wishbone Ash,so anyone who strings 3,5, or whatever gigs together is legend in my book! big_smile

Come on you Blades!
