Topic: The Big Heat

Spare a thought for our poor suffering brothers and sisters in the north-east, who are currently being subjected to mega-death by heat. sad Numerous successive days of 100+ temperatures (think 35-38C).

Cathy picked the perfect week to be sick and have to stay home in the a/c! She went outside to 'test' the heat and was back in within a minute, describing it as "BRUTAL" (her caps).

Y'all look after yourselves over there! wink

Re: The Big Heat

78 degrees F and no humidity in Southern California.  Haven't even turn on the air conditioner yet  this year.  Very unusual.  Normally 100 deg F + at this time of year.

Re: The Big Heat

Harrisburg International Airport in south central PA posted a high temperature of 100 yesterday; our first triple-digit day in eight years. On my back patio, the remote thermometer said 109. I was out there watering our plants and it was like a mini Crossroads, except with no problems staying hydrated. smile

(I was at the local Lowe's recently and they were selling a case of bottled water for $4.99! That's a penny less than Crossroads charged for one bottle, unless you want to quibble about sales tax.)

More due today. Fortunately for us, we both work in air conditioned offices so it bothers us not at all. I pity the trash men, road crews, etc.

Pretty much the same deal in NorCal RF, upper '70s low '80s w/ our natural AC mornings & evenings lately(coastal fog). Got up into low 100s over the weekend, but dry heat. Just a typical Cali. summer.

I was in New Jersey Hombre. Transiting the Newark hub. Now the heat wave has followed me to Berlin. The next three days are forecast to hit 36c. (mid to high 90's).

Re: The Big Heat

It's pretty sticky here tonight too. We're getting some of Rick's Berlin heat, though predictions for the coming days suggest 'only' 30-33c (86-91) around here.

In any event, it will be seriously sticky for Joe's performance in Rotterdam and for the WORLD CUP FINAL on Sunday. But we mustn't complain compared to what our east coast friends are still going through.

Our house by the beach in  SoCal has no airconditioning and no central heat either. Don't need it. Eat your hearts out.  tongue

Re: The Big Heat

So to bring light-heartedness to this discussion, I saw the title of this thread (haven't looked in off topics in a while so it was new to me) and thought this was about the new triumvirate of LeBron, D-Wade, and Bosh at Miami.  tongue

Re: The Big Heat

Our hottest day this year yesterday, 97f with a heat index around 103. It will cool off slightly over the weekend. Just brutal, "It's not the heat that will get you, it's the humidity". Yeah right, ask the people in Arizona what they think about that old saying. But BigJeff's brother is correct, when the humidity gets past 80% then you feel like you need gill implants.

Re: The Big Heat

Rick,

I thought you were referring to Berlin, New Jersey not Berlin, Germany  big_smile   I live about 25 minutes from Berlin, NJ (south jersey) ...I guess you flew out of Newark, NJ, makes sense now.

Re: The Big Heat

On top of broken water heater/flooded basement/root canal/sick as a dog... I thought my a/c was just having trouble keeping up with 105 heat! It took me 24 hrs, and a temp of 82 in my living room to figure out it wasn't working...dah..so add new a/c compressor to my list of fun...Cooler now...Cathy
