Re: "Merchants and Thieves"

Joe posted this on Twitter :

My Girl Sandi Thom's album is out this week.. buy it.. its good.. I wouldnt lead you astray...

There you are. The boss has spoken.

Re: "Merchants and Thieves"

I've had it a couple of days and it is surprisingly good.  Sandi has a great voice, a lot of soul, and the songs are really strong.  Show No Concern, Runaway Train, Gold Dust, and Belly of the Blues are really good, but there isn't a bad track on the album.  2 thumbs up.

tis a very very good all round album indeed, agree with The Dude, here my fave cuts are for sure

Belly Of The Blues ... great feel and lyrics
Ghost Town ... eerily haunting
Heart Of Stone ... My Fave ST song ... brilliant tune

A worthy and must own release in amongst all the Blues/Rock  cd's this year

looking forward to Sandi rocking Hammersmith too

Re: "Merchants and Thieves"

I agree.  We're here as fans of Joe. Besides, one "blues" album does not a blues artist make.

I know, I feel we are getting into Buckingham / Nicks territory, soon you can't have one without the other.
Iwas going to go and see Sandi in Belfast last Thursday, but I went to see Mark Knopfler instead... as good a tone as i've ever heard (and i've heard many!)

Guitars: 95 Les Paul Standard, Relic Strat,
Amps: 1973 Marshall JMP 50 head and Vintage Modern Cab. I use no effects other than a Cry Baby on occasions.

Re: "Merchants and Thieves"

I posted here because it is relevant, and like you guys do for Joe, I want the artist I like to do well.

Not everyone is going to know that you can get two extra tracks by Joe on iTunes so I just thought you might have liked to know and maybe discuss what you thought about those tracks.

You dont have to read or reply to this topic if you are not a fan of Sandi, but rather that state how annoyed you are you could have just given your opinion on Joe's contribution.

Re: "Merchants and Thieves"

Sandi's ok and it's nice of Joe to recommend his girlfriend's album to his fans, but does he have to be dating someone  to do so? What I mean is a recommendation or two for some of the other young blues musicians, some airplay on his show or even a support slot would not go amiss for them either...

Re: "Merchants and Thieves"

Lynnl,
I hear you...  don't agree quite frankly.  My Planet Rock radio show is not about me being a conduit or pipeline for the latest and greatest blues artist.. I play what I want. I don't just listen to blues-(A) ,- (B)   I wont be seen as playing favorites.. I do not  want to be a radio programer. That job is for others..   Planet Rock is so great to let me do what I want. I am so grateful for their support and for humoring me especially  when I want to play a 15 min version of Los Endos.    I will not sit here and defend my choices that is the perk of the job.   Sandi is my girlfriend  and I am happy to tour with my girl that I don't get to see very often. You can understand that I hope.. Generally I don't use opening acts because I need to start at 8 to finish by 10 on a weekday. I think the working fan appreciates the early start and being home by 11:00 pm on a school night.  It is my choice. I am involved in every step of my business and I know a lot about it.  I do blues in the schools in the United States and I invite kids down to the theaters  in the UK and Europe..   I do it all for free and have been for almost 10 years.. Why?  Because I feel the overwhelming need to  give back to the community that allows me to make my living playing guitar. ( I am a very lucky guy)   I also give away more than the 250 Epiphone guitars a year that I buy with my own money.   So to sum up.. I feel I fine about my show on Planet Rock and having my beautiful girlfriend Sandi open the 4 Uk shows.. She is really fantastic.. give her a listen.  Especially now.. I also feel fine about how much I give back .. most of which is not listed here.
Thanks for your feedback ..
Joe B
