Topic: My First Performance! Opinions?

Hey Bonamaniacs! Our school's talent show was the other day, and I played Voodoo Child for it! It'd be cool if you guys could let me know how it sounds, what I could do better, etc (I got a pretty good response so next time I play I'll be more confident and look up) Sorry about the video moving a bit, my Dad isn't the greatest at that tongue Also, how tight did the drummer and I sound to you? Due to some circumstances with my old drummer who quit on me the DAY before, this drummer and I practiced for 10 minutes. Does that show? Thanks for critiques! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLfAPFkuVuM

Re: My First Performance! Opinions?

Looked and sounded like a pretty wild crowd and they certainly gave the right encouragement. Must have been a nice feeling.

Well done. You can certainly play. I'm always a bit dubious when I see Voodoo Chile is the song of choice because it is one of those ultimate guitarist self indulgence trips and can turn into a widdlefest. But as a showcase for what you can do I guess it fits the bill.

Personally, I like it slower, because then the song carries a whole lot more menace and a guitarist can achieve a lot more by doing a lot less, and let the effects do just that. However, to attempt it with just drums backing you, and a drummer that had only rehearsed with you for 10 minutes was pretty brave I think.

As regards the drummer and you, for 10 mins prep you did pretty good. Its not an easy song and once you start soloing, without a bassist to help keep the rhythm going, it must have been quite difficult. I think that showed when you tried to finish. But hey, thats just rehearsal and practice.

Get a bassist in there, slow it down a little and let the song stretch out. Less is more, but WTF do I know?

It was talent show, and you seem to have some so keep up the good work.

Nice one Brandon. If you're going to copy someone, might as well be from the best!
The audience were enthusiastic which always helps!
Seeing as you and your new drummer only practiced for 10 mins  Both of you did well.

Yeah, it was quite fast. SRV was the only one who could pull it off fast (The outtake from his second time at Austin City Limits was awesome). Thanks for the constructiveness smile
