Can anyone tell me, as maybe I have lost a bit of track, but what, exactly, is the point of a single these days?
It can't be sales, certainly not for The Union. So is the aim just to get a specific track on 'heavy rotation' with certain stations?
I don't understand the genre anymore. I would have thought it was of more interest to get the album sampled as often as possible on radio, or is the single the lead-in to that process?
Just seems to me that the band will spend a small fortune on a plugger tapping up radio station jockeys just to get one song a few spins in the vain hope of getting noticed.
Just don't see it. Thats like old hat. Luke M and Pete S have a lot of credibility with the fans of their old bands. Better option is like Joe. Get interactive on the net with the forum and website/Myspace/Facebook/Twitter. get on the road and make yourself accessible to the fanbase at the gigs giving you instant feedback on whats good and whats not and let your music, your rep and positive word of mouth do the rest.
Singles in this day and age strike me as a bit lazy. I certainly wouldn't buy one and hearing one track off and on seems a bit hit and miss.
