Re: New Generation Blues UK Tour Starts Tomorrow

Tour off to amazing start, the noise from the crowd at the end of our set is like being in a stadium, took my breath away. For anyone coming to this tour you really are in for something special. 3 first class acts, giving their all  cool

I'll second that!

Fantastic gig in Bristol last night - thanks to Martin, Graham and the guys for fun, hospitality and glorious music - go get a ticket ... if you can.

Matt.

Re: New Generation Blues UK Tour Starts Tomorrow

Absolutely.  It was a brilliant evening in Bristol from start to finish. A great venue as well.  Don't miss the tour.  Looking forward to the Jazz Cafe.

Re: New Generation Blues UK Tour Starts Tomorrow

How can I put this...........?

I'm not normally one for shouting, but DO NOT MISS THIS TOUR!

I've had a real blast these last couple of nights - firstly an impulse return to the Assembly at Leamington on Wednesday, and then with Mrs Icon in tow, the Robin 2 at Bilston on Thursday.
There is so much energy and excitement about these three acts, and it's infectious.
It was great to return to Leamington on wednesday, the scene of our last big forum meet, and a decent sized crowd enjoyed storming sets from Virgil, Joanne, and Oli, the latter with another new bass player (for this tour) in Gaz Rackham (who played on Oli's album). Watch out for Gaz's bass solo guys - mesmerising! The Accelerators (Gabe and Tom) are learning the ropes fast - they are also Joanne's rhythm section for this tour, and a great job they do!
Last night's gig at the Robin was truly electifying. The biggest crowd I've seen there for ages on a blues-rock night were well up for it, and they were treated to performances from all three bands that had the place buzzing.
Virgil managed to get his hands on another Bonamassa Les Paul that he put through it's paces on "Had to Cry Today". Although VATA only play a short set on this tour, they take no prisoners! Gotta say that performace was the best I've seen yet - they really have moved up a gear.
Joanne has a good local following at the Robin and she picked up where Virgil left off with a high energy set, despite still being a little jet lagged. Jo was lifted by the energy from the crowd, and really brought the house down with "Blackest Day".
By the time Oli took to the stage, the place was really buzzing, and he picked up on that and produced possibly the best set I've seen him play. Oli really feeds off the audience and last night he had them in the palm of his hand. I think this young star has actually taken things up a level with his live show - his singing, and even more so, his playing, have taken a leap forward, and with his own individual style I forsee a big breakthrough before too much longer.

Good to meet up with Scoot again at Leamington, and Geoff, Sue, and Pete59 at the Robin.
Well - two late, great, nights - and I'm knackered - I've got a gig myself tonight so it's time to cram in some last minute practice   hmm  I took lots of photos but they'll have to wait. I'll post some over the weekend.

Ian

Please be in no doubt that this is the REAL ME! Beware imposters........................

So no Roger Inniss then? I rate him highly as a bass player.

Enjoyed the review, thanks Ian. Glad I'm not the only one knackered after 2 late nights gigging on the trot  hmm

Re: New Generation Blues UK Tour Starts Tomorrow

Good luck on the tour Martin.  It's great to hear Virgil and bandmates are honing their sound onward and upward - good stuff!

Re: New Generation Blues UK Tour Starts Tomorrow

Bloody hell, the Robin 2 on Thursday night completely blew me away. The venue first of all - what a great venue, friendly, cosy without being too small. Excellent sound and pretty good lighting. Then there was the show! Virgil, Tom and Gab took no prisoners and opened up with all guns blazing and took my breath away for sure - Tight and powerful with wonderful playing skills. Not the same awestruck guy I saw on stage having a personal lesson from Joe in Llandudno! Then Joanne Shaw Taylor - my first time seeing Joanne and I have to say this lady can play with guts and feelng, she rung the neck of that Fender, with a style that is her own. Great to see Oli again, playing to a much bigger crowd than he had at Baby Blue on a Sunday night in Liverpool (Not a good night Sunday and it was hardly promoted then) Tonight was a much bigger crowd and Oli, Simon and Gaz shook them to the core with a fine set which demostrated their musicianship perfectly. Very impressed with Gaz's playing, although he played on Oli's latest album, he is new to the band. His solo work was superb, but just watching him play, you could see he is a class player. Oli swept everyone off their feet, what a player. He had the crowd in the palm of his hand and just before the encore, he walked out onto the floor as usual to play right in front of the fans - (took me back to Angus at the Empire in Liverpool appearing on the edge of the balcony, only Oli wasn't headbanging! - sorry going back too many years there)

Great gig in Aldershot on Friday night. Superb performances from all three bands. I was very impressed by Virgil & The Accelerators. This is a band going places, and I'm really looking forward to seeing them play a full set on their own tour. I've already got The Beaverwood marked down in my gig diary. Excellent set from Joanne Shaw Taylor too, especially Blackest Day.

I knew that Oli Brown was good, but I had no idea how good he was going to be. A complete natural who has got it all. Oli Brown is sheer class, and a incredible performer.

With Virgil, Oli, Joanne, Chantel, and a few others, we're in a golden age of the British rock/blues guitarist. It's great to be part of it all from the beginning.

Really delighted to read this, as it confirms what both Cathy and I thought after seeing Joanne and Oli last year!  cool

Virgil is next on the 'must see live' list....

Rock On and keep the Faith

Re: New Generation Blues UK Tour Starts Tomorrow

Went to the gig at The Stables Milton Keynes on Monday, and it was a belter.
Apart from the venue naziis stopping people from taking photos and video it is a good place to watch a band or two. Even bumped into Del Bronham (Stray) and had a chat in the interval. Sold out and much business being done for the 3 bands.
