Footnote 2
As Roger mentioned, a certain senior forum member had his 2 minutes of fame when Philip related the story of being interviewed on the phone in the only quiet place he could find at the 100 Club. That was until said forum member found him. lol There's a bit more to this story but ethics prevent me from divulging the full details.  wink

It is with a certain sense of inevitability that I can reveal that it was Rob Varmint & I who were conducting the interview at the time for a feature on the show - now provisionally entitled "The Varmints In the John with Philip Sayce"

Fortunately, we wouldn't know what to do with an ethical compass, even if we had one, so will be happy to, not only divulge further details, but also play you an audio record of what happened when these two met!

(Don't worry Michael, it's very funny).

However, given some challenging conditions for recording the interview (not to mention interruptions), I suspect this one won't see the light of day for 2 or 3 months as there's loads of post production to be done.

We'll let you know.

Matt

Well, that was loud. I said THAT WAS LOUD. Eh?

Brilliant playing. Although my poor ears liked the gentle numbers the best the rest of me enjoyed the rockers too. I take Roger's point about Philip being mischievous. In his introduction to an instrumental number (which one was that Phil?) he said he hoped we recognised the song and to sing along if we knew the words  big_smile

As far a Wooders' “Footnote 2” is concerned I wasn't even going to mention it. The crowd enjoyed the story though. What a hoot that it was the Varmints on the other end (so to speak)

That dreamy instrumental is called "Alchemy".

Re: Philip Sayce - The Yin To Joe's Yang

Philip's set on Wednesday night at the 100 club in London was one of the most powerful rock shows i have ever witnessed, absolutely stellar show from the band with straight ahead rock and ballads with blues and funky chops, a real throwback guitar showman and a true rock entertainer
please don't miss this guy live, he is just tearing up the blues/rock rule book and flat out going for it in his own powerful style.  truly brilliant guitarist and superb voice too
Maggie, Phil, David Roger and Eldo will back me up here, we we're all blown away
5***** show Philip

Re: Philip Sayce - The Yin To Joe's Yang

I fully agree with the all plaudits about Sayce, he really is a superb guitar player, he plays with such energy and power, and his superb vocals are equally as good as his guitar playing. He has a superb set of songs and the funk edge really makes for a contemporary feel.  Witnessing him in a small venue I really got the feeling that he'll be playing far larger venues in the coming years. SO the time to start seeing him is now! smile

As for a tour with Joe, I have to say with the greatest of respect to Joe that I don't think he would realish playing after Sayce. Popularity wise Philip's clearly a few years behind Joe and yet to make the step up in prominence. Yet fresh from seeing him live I'm certain he will follow a similar path to greater success and recognition, all they key elements are in place. I'd also suggest that think Innerrevolution is a better album than Black Rock particularly in respect of sonics, modern feel and original song writing.  Play them side by side and I think you'll hear what I mean. Onwards and upwards.

Re: Philip Sayce - The Yin To Joe's Yang

Great review of Philip. I have had the privilege to see and get to know Philip quite a bit these last five years. I am so glad he is touring so others can get the full experience of this amazing musician and person.
