Topic: The Varmints in a Tunnel with Aynsley Lister

The Varmints are genuinely delighted to announce that this week (Friday 23rd April) we have an hour-long interview with the extraordinary Aynsley Lister on the show.

Recorded after the Aynsley Lister Band's gig at the Tunnels venue in Bristol (hence the title), the interview covers Aynsley's career, dealing with record labels, putting together a band, Glastonbury and the eagerly awaited forthcoming live album - Tower Sessions.

Recorded at a point where, for a variety of reasons, Aynsley could have been forgiven for being a less than enthusiastic interviewee - what we got was quite the opposite:  Generous with his time, expansive with his answers, humble, honest and very funny, Aynsley was a a great interviewee and we, the Varmints, reckon that, combined with his staggering abilities as a guitarist, singer and song-writer, this feature is an absolute must-listen.

The interview airs Friday 23rd, between 22.00 & 00.00 GMT.  For new listeners, just click the Listen LIVE! menu item above at the appointed time.

I will be listening for sure!
Never heard Ayns saying more than was absolutely necessary smile

Well done !

Re: The Varmints in a Tunnel with Aynsley Lister

Suzanne,

He's quite a chatterbox when he gets going - I'd say the interview is about 50% music / 50% speech.

He's candid & funny.

Enjoy!

Matt

Obligatory shameless bump - just to remind you that show airs tonight from 22.00 GMT - that's in just over 4.5 hours from the time of this post.

Not only do we have the Aynsley interview, but also 3 fantastic & exclusive tracks from Snowy White, Mark Butcher & Matt Taylor.

Hope to see you there.

Matt.

Re: The Varmints in a Tunnel with Aynsley Lister

It's a shame Anysley doesn't want to be a full out Blues Rocker. He said "contemporary" was his style. I say he slays with the slow bluesy songs like the riffs on "Have You Ever Loved a Woman"...but, just my wishes. Thanks for the show. I too learned more about Anysley today than I have in the prior years! I hope he stays this outgoing at shows. Maybe even a trip to the States??!!  Thanks again, Cathy

Re: The Varmints in a Tunnel with Aynsley Lister

Yes a great interview, and nice to hear the new live version of Soundman too!  big_smile

Re: The Varmints in a Tunnel with Aynsley Lister

Thanks for a great show, Varmints. Aynsley was very entertaining. I also enjoyed the Matt Taylor tracks.
Did Aynsley actually come up with his 'song he wishes he'd written'?....I think that was the only time he was at a loss for words! smile

Have a great time at the Ana Popovich gig fellas!

Tripsy smile x

Re: The Varmints in a Tunnel with Aynsley Lister

Glad you enjoyed it guys - & yes, the new version of Soundman was the icing on the cake!

Tripsy (and others), sorry not to have responded to you more during the show - I haven't done the show on my own before and was mainly concentrating on getting the desk-work right (strangely, I'm quite happy working a 48 channel lighting desk, but was a little nervous when confronted with a couple of faders - still, seemed to go OK).

The Matt Taylor, Snowy White & Mark Butcher tracks were great weren't they!

and, yes, we will enjoy Ana P (though I feel I may need to feed Rob large amounts of horse tranquilizers before the interview to keep him sedated - you can still see the imprint of his fingers on Joanne Shaw-Taylor's shoulder to this day!)

Matt

and no, Aynsley hasn't emailed back yet with his choice, but we'll keep reminding him ...

Re: The Varmints in a Tunnel with Aynsley Lister

Just a quick "bump" to remind people that this interview is repeated tonight - approx 3 hours from the timing of this post.

Enjoy!
