Topic: Town Hall

Well Lets Just Say Another Great Show . Got to the theater early and ran into bogie had a little chat with him on the street great guy as is everyone that works for joe (they are a friendly bunch of chaps) then i ran into joe who once again hooked me up with warren who was working the board another real nice guy . warren let me set up right next to him at the board and we sat around chatting before they let anyone into the theater . joe was up on the stage and there was a handful of people in the theater and we stood around talking to joe who just got back into the theater with his dinner and that didnt matter to him he took the time to sit and talk with us and tell some funny stories . joe does go out of his way to be real friendly to his fans and never blows anyone off and to me thats what makes him a real down to earth guy. carmine came out and we chatted for a little while and he is hurting with a bad eye but he still took the time to talk with us . so on with the show the place was sold out i believe somewhere round 1500 people and everyone was pumped to see joe . the stage was alittle small for all the gear and lights that joe is bringing out on tour but the sound was good and the band was on there game for the first show of this leg of the tour . joe was a little under the weather but if he didnt tell me that before the show you would of never known it . no matter how bad he is feeling he puts his all into the show . reminds of something joe dimaggio said when asked why he plays so hard every game and he said there might be someone at the stadium seeing him for the first time and that seems to be the way joe goes about it . all in all it was a very good show and had a great time . here is the set list

Re: Town Hall

Thanks for the review Joe, sounds like a great show. Sad to hear Joe is under the weather & had to cancel last night, I hope he feels better soon. I'm still hoping he puts When The Fire Hits The Sea when he plays Wilmington, my fingers are crossed. I do think the Joe Dimaggio is a great comparison as Joe always seems to give it his all at every show.

Re: Town Hall

Hey Big Daddy Pisan,

Glad to read your review of the show. I've gotten a chance to talk to Bogie and you're right, a very nice guy indeed. And high praise for the show coming from a guy who has recorded....well, I'm not sure you even know how many shows you've recorded Joe. The Master of the live audio recording, Joebeacon! cool

Re: Town Hall

I can't agree with you more about the performance of Joe B and the band at Town Hall. It was awesome! My son and I came a very long way to watch the concert and couldn't get enough of it. Now that we're back home, we hope Joe and the group will be able to visit  Asia again one day and possibly consider passing by the Philippines to do a show or two. I know he'll be well received here.

By the way, we loved the re-arrangement that was done on Mountain Time. First time we heard it played that way and it was solid! Any chance that version will be recorded for distribution?

Re: Town Hall

I don't know what you mean by rearangement it has been played like that live for some time. He has changed the intro to it quite frequently. This tour he has played a portion of Django as the intro. Mountain Time is live on at least three different recordings. Live Nowhere in Particular, Live at the Royal Albert Hall DVD with audio available on Itunes, Live at Shepherds Bush Empire available on Itunes. All similar versions with different intros. Django is played as the intro to Ballad of John Henry at the Royal Albert Hall.

Re: Town Hall

Thanks for the insights Joe.  This was my first live JB concert.  My boss turned me on to JB well over a year ago, I know, I'm a rookie.   I had just missed JB when he played NJ and vowed not to let that happen again.  As soon as the Town Hall gig was announced I keep an eye on the Ticket Master site and was able to get 4th row tickets, on the Drummer/Bass side.  We had a feeling that JB wasn't feeling well, but if you just listened to the concert, you would have no idea.  One thing that truly impressed me was that JB came on at 8pm sharp!  No waiting, no bullshit, just great music.  He played in excess of 2 hours, only leaving the stage for a moment & then came back for the encore.  The band was tight, I just can't say enough.  The Town Hall bouncers were walking around telling people to stop recording stuff, which surprised me because I know that JB is video friendly.  I have a Gibson SG custom, dated either late sixties or very early seventies, my band days, long gone.  Original purchase.  Maybe one day I will get fortunate to get into one of those "meet-and-greets", if I do, I'll bring my old guitar for JB to inspect.

India is no longer an intro???  Sad if its not.  Has to be one of Joes most powerful pieces

You won't miss it. Mountain Time is a continuing evolution in the intro section. I've heard 3 different live versions, once two nights in a row, and each is better than the last. Joe just gets into a groove and seems to wing it as the mood strikes him. IMO one of his best by far in the tour set. Beautiful to listen to no matter what version he does.

Re: Town Hall

I was at the show and was nice to have a little chat time with Joe and a few others including Warren.  This was my third time with photo pass and a big thanks to Joe Beacon for allowing me to hang in his seats up front and close to the stage - was able to get some decent pics despite the tight security... was asked not to hang in between the aisles and the room was a bit tight.... not photo-friendly.

Show was amazing - as said, you would have not really known Joe was under the weather... he really pushed himself and the band as much as he could and gave 100% - his voice sounded great as well.

Thanks again Beacon!   smile
Hope to catch up with you and the others next time Joe makes it back to New York.

Many thanks for the info, Jim. We got to know of Joe B only last year as we don't get his CDs at all in Manila. We're actually getting to know and appreciate more of his work only now, thanks to his website as well as the Town Hall show, which was our first live intro to his music. Having said that, we're rock solid fans of his now and will keep abreast online.
